Delayed Edwards GOTV e-mail

by: truebluedan

Fri Jan 11, 2008 at 10:01:17 AM EST

Crossposted at My Left Wing.

Suddenly, two days AFTER the primary is over, my e-mail inbox contains GOTV messages from the Edwards campaign.

Has this happened to anyone else who was on the Edwards e-mail list?

truebluedan :: Delayed Edwards GOTV e-mail
I've worked in high tech for a while, so I'm well acquainted with the innate animosity of inanimate objects, in this case computers and computer networks. There are logical, technological limitations that could have caused these delays.

Perhaps, because I provided my e-mail address late, there was a delay adding this information to the campaign's database.

Perhaps, because of high volume, my e-mail was sent late. The Internet is like a pipe; it can send a limited amount of data at the same time.

And yet, given the nature of this era, this incident makes me wonder. Let me put on my tin-foil hat as I contemplate more paranoid theories.

It was here in NH that Republicans jammed Democratic GOTV phone banks.

Cellular phone service providers have blocked text messages from certain progressive organizations. Could an anti-Edwards hacker have delayed these GOTV e-mails?

Folks on the mailing list from at least one progressive news outlet have complained regularly that their e-mail alerts of news updates have been blocked. Could my broadband service provider have delayed these messages?

These delayed e-mail messages may indeed be no more than a technological glitch. Then again, as my Southern Baptist college roommate once said, "There may be Satanic forces at work here."

If someone from the Edwards campaign can explain this, please comment so I can take off my tinfoil hat - it's scaring my dog and it makes my wife nervous.

I got Edwards e mail (4.00 / 1)
I got the Edwards e mail at my office and my private e mail addresses. This is what I got at 7:19 a.m. on election day. I was going to delete it, but now I guess I better save it if people are going to start claiming he wuz robbed due to hacking!

Dear Kathleen,

The day we've been working for, building for, and looking forward to for all these months is here.

Every indication we're seeing on the ground is that this is going to be a very close race. There is no doubt that the winner will be the candidate who most effectively turns out supporters.

I am asking you, and every Granite stater, to vote for me today. Most polls open at 7am and close at 7pm but to confirm specific details on your polling location click here:

My copy came yesterday (4.00 / 1)

I got the same message, but late yesterday afternoon.

Then I found this message this morning, sent @ 11:35 PM Jan 10:

Dear Daniel,

Elizabeth and I are having a great day visiting phone banks, volunteer gatherings, and local restaurants to meet with New Hampshire voters and make sure everyone is getting to the polls tonight. ... [snip]

Please make sure to arrive at your polling location before they close tonight. ... [snip]

And don't forget to join me tonight at 7pm for our election night celebration. ... [snip]

- John Edwards

This leads me to suspect a technological problem. I'm almost ready to take off the tinfoil hat.

Who provides your email? (0.00 / 0)
There are possible innocent explanations, but you might start with youir email provider.

Ya think? (0.00 / 0)
Somebody is able to deliberately block the e-mail but then they deliver it late just to go "Nya-nyah!"

Nya-nyah (0.00 / 0)
Might a system might have gotten glitchy depending how it was maintained ? I got the mass blast on election morning, btw.
It might be a provider's issue. Withhold payment !
