Hillary to NH Primary Voters: SUCKERS!

by: Stark Blue

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 22:06:20 PM EST

We all know the history--Michigan and Florida moved their primaries to close to New Hampshire's in violation of DNC rules.  All the candidates agreed to this and promised to not campaign in these states--but Hillary conveniently kept her name on these ballots.

The Clintons are certainly showing their true colors since losing Iowa and finding themselves in a tough political battle.  Not only will they get down into a political mud pit and mix it up (a place I've certainly found myself in)...but they'll stoop to the lowest levels of human morals and will do or say anything to win.

Hey, some people will defend that level of deceit, but that's not my cup or tea.

My comments are motivated not by the XY Clinton, but rather Hillary's recent attempts to advocate for the sitting of the Michigan and Florida Dems delegates.  With this action, Hillary Clinton basically waved her middle finger at the New Hampshire Democratic activists who fight every cycle to keep the first in the nation primary in NH.

Stark Blue :: Hillary to NH Primary Voters: SUCKERS!
The signal all the campaigns gave last fall was they would honor New Hampshire's status as first in the nation and not campaign or except delegates from Michigan or Florida.  They all have honored their word, except for Hillary Clinton because her interests today are different than they were last fall.  Last fall she needed to pander to Democratic voters in New Hampshire, now she does not.

Now I know there are people who post on Blue Hampshire that are strong Hillary supporters and have been on the front lines for many years fighting for the "first-in-the-nation" status for NH.  And I suspect they will mount a strong rhetorical defense to this (at least for me) indefensible behavior.

But I want just one question answered as part of any defense of Hillary...

If Hillary Clinton had actively supported Michigan and Florida electing DNC Convention delegates in these early primary elections last Fall, would she have won the New Hampshire primary?

Of course not and that's why she did not support this last fall.  Now that the New Hampshire primary is over and NH voters don't matter to her, she'll now do anything and say anything that will get her nominated.

And for the New Hampshire Democrats Hillary has just one thing to say:

SUCKERS!

I'm with you, except for the "lowest levels of human morals" part. (0.00 / 0)
There is a gaping cavern between the greatest of all evil and the deceit.callousness shown to New Hampshire by the Clintons in this election.

That said, the Republicans will surely remind New Hampshirites of this during the general election if she is nominated, to the tune of "the Clintons cannot be trusted."  Say what you will about John McCain (and rest assured, I will say plenty), but you know what you're getting when you vote for him, and a McCain-Clinton race will be tough because of that.

And by the way, considering how much the former President has been involved in pot-stirring and intra-partisan bickering, we can no longer refer to Obama's opponent as "Hillary", for that is an understatement of what he is up agaist: "the Clintons".

What is evil but deceit? (4.00 / 1)
I suppose it's her right to change her mind as easily as she changes her hairdo, but that's just not acceptable when other people's lives and fortunes are involved.

Not quite accurate (0.00 / 0)
You said, The signal all the campaigns gave last fall was they would honor New Hampshire's status as first in the nation and not campaign or except delegates from Michigan or Florida.

That is not true.  From the Tampa Tribune last September, one day after the pledge, following Senator Obama's appearance in Florida at a fundraiser:

TAMPA - Barack Obama hinted during a Tampa fundraiser Sunday that if he's the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, he'll seat a Florida delegation at the party's national convention, despite national party sanctions prohibiting it.

Obama also appeared to violate a pledge he and the other leading candidates took by holding a brief news conference outside the fundraiser. That was less than a day after the pledge took effect Saturday, and Obama is the first Democratic presidential candidate to visit Florida since then.

From the same story:

According to Sanchez and Tom Scarritt, Obama was asked during the event about making sure Floridians have a role in the nomination, despite the DNC sanctions and the pledge. Scarritt said Obama responded that he'll "do what's right by Florida voters."

Also, from the Huffington Post on January 15 which talks about fundraising by the candidates in Florida:

And the Tuesday memos between the frontrunner campaigns were enough to cause at least one Florida Democratic official to describe the whole exchange as redundant and silly.

The prohibition against campaigning, said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity, is based on the rules and regulations of the Democratic National Committee. "But the DNC Rules do not exempt fundraising. It's ridiculous. The Obama campaign memo is the definition of 'grasping at straws.' The reality is that both of them broke the pledge, and Obama did it first. Obama has had more large, low-dollar events than Hillary though the Clinton campaign did do one with Bill."

Do you want to rethink your position on "deceit' and "lowest levels of morality"?
