Did the Manchester Dems Pot Hole Video Push Guinta Over the Edge?

by: Pia Carusone

Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 13:01:23 PM EDT

(Manchester)- The Manchester City Democrats today released a new video on the deteriorating city streets. It can be viewed by clicking here:  http://intransitpictures.com/p...

"Since winning re-election, Mayor Guinta has been virtually absent from the city either campaigning across the state with Rudy Giuliani or chasing his own political ambitions. Has our Absentee Mayor even noticed the growing number of potholes dotting Manchester's streets? And with the city already facing a budget crisis will the Mayor be able fill our pothole-riddled streets," said Chris Pappas, Chair of the Manchester City Democrats. "Our Absentee Mayor should get back to the city and start serving the people who elected him rather than trying to chase down his political pipedreams. Why would the people of New Hampshire trust him as governor of our state when he has neglected his own city? Considering the condition of our city streets, it's no wonder the Mayor needs a new car."

Can I bill the city for new shocks and springs for my car?

No. (0.00 / 0)
Remember how he nails signs to his signs that say "cut taxes!"?  What he means by that is "let the city infrastructure die!"

Reason number 437 not to support dogmatic Republicans: if you think "tax and spend" is not a function of government, you're an anarchist.

No Cap No Baines (0.00 / 0)
stickers are still plastered over the city. Maybe we can use some of those 4x8 re elect guinta signs to put over the pot holes.

I really don't understand how he won a second time. (0.00 / 0)
Seriously.  I don't get it.  Someone explain it to me.

Everyone gets two terms. (0.00 / 0)
Unless you make massive spectacular blunders and alienate everyone you come into contact with, that is.

And to give Guinta some faint praise, he's no Craig Benson.

Perhaps (0.00 / 0)
But I always assumed Guinta won the first time because everyone was so sure Baines would be re-elected that they didn't bother to vote.  I can't imagine that happened twice in a row.

Many people think that Manchester is better off now than it was (0.00 / 0)
a few years ago.  As an non-resident, downtown does look nicer, with more stores etc.  Of course, I'm from an hour north of there so I'm not much of a source.

Any changes of course are probably more likely due to macroeconomics than who's sitting in city hall.

Where do we go from here?

The downtown revival began under Baines. (0.00 / 0)

Right, (0.00 / 0)
but I would guess that most residents couldn't tell you that.  Which is of course the central problem of most local political campaigns.

Where do we go from here?

[ Parent ]
If you're thinking they credit the revival to Guinta, (0.00 / 0)
I highly doubt it.

'The edge': Today he announced he won't challenge Lynch n/t (0.00 / 0)

Damn! Would've been a slaughter. (0.00 / 0)
Then again, that's what I said when he challenged Baines...

Are ANY NH cities on top of their pothole problems? (0.00 / 0)
Mine is definitely not...

I watched a plow (0.00 / 0)
rip up part of my street, they stopped and looked around, then left...

You just have to learn how to weave around them, im guessing thats what Guinta does.

[ Parent ]
Guinta doesn't see potholes. (0.00 / 0)
He sees the one newly paved street and thinks "we should have fired that guy and cut taxes", except without the actual tax cutting.

we have whole streets (0.00 / 0)
that are comprised of one pothole after another. I sometimes make a decision about which route to take, based on the potholes.

Snow machines have done a job on some roads, in the places where they cross over.

The road crews are going to be busy this summer.
