Arrest Rove

by: Douglas E. Lindner

Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 21:15:33 PM EDT

It's time for Congress to assert its inherent contempt power, to send the Sergeant at Arms, the Capitol Police, or whoever it is they send to go out and arrest Karl Rove for Contempt of Congress.  They have to reassert themselves as a coequal branch of government that cannot be ignored.  Rove is making a mockery of them.  I don't care if they're accused of political theater, I'm not even as concerned with what comes of the investigation as much as the fact that it happens.  This is important, and we're at the point where the time for inherent contempt has come.

Hahaha. (4.00 / 1)
This made me laugh from your poll:

Should Congress assert itself

You'll have to wait for the GOP Congressional minority to do that the microsecond that anyone in Obama's Admin does anything that remotely whiffs of overreach.

Seeing the GOoPers and the MSM revert to their shock and awe mode of the Clinton years again is going to be SO TOTALLY AWESOME.

Wonder if Sununu's fired now.

For years, comedians have teased that Republicans were a party of bad ideas and Democrats were a party of no ideas. (0.00 / 0)
It's time to prove that being a Democrat means something.

Heh. Atrios just now: (0.00 / 0)
'm watching Dan Abrams' show, and Michael Waldman just said that in past presidencies, being seen as hiding something or obstructing justice was enough to cause people to agree to testify to Congress. I wonder what's changed. Perhaps we could ask Fred Hiatt.

Julian Epstein roughly made the same point as I was typing this. During the Clinton administration, anything was labeled "obstruction of justice" and caused weeks of hyperventilating in editorial pages and on cable news.

Now? Pretty much silence.

Wonder if Sununu's fired now.
