Check out the DSCC's awesome new web ad:

How I wish this were a TV ad. I think it would actually work pretty well as one.

This is an Open Thread.

A shout out to the Keene Sentinel (4.00 / 3)
Back in the earliest days of BlueHampshire (Diary #63)we gave them some stick for being one of the least accessible and poorly designed websites on the state scene.

The diary caught the eye of the editor of the paper and, in perhaps some foreshadowing regarding the impact of BlueHampshire would have on the state, he created an acct. and joined the discussion.

A couple of weeks ago the Sentinel relauched their website and things are much improved.

-- They are doing some web first reporting/stories
-- Much more free content
-- RSS available

So kudos to those involved with the decision making and implementation of the new website.

The ad (0.00 / 0)
I like the cutouts standing together.

The web-only ad is an interesting strategy. I'll bet you hit most of the people who really care, and the costs are so much less.

the context of the girls' answers is pure, next to the snark of its useful intent. Its effective as attack ad, and damning in a lighthearted way.

This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.

We have to hear this from McCord?

2002 replay: Do NH Dems have the goods?
The NH Democratic Party is hosting a conference call with reporters later today -- and say they will
unveil a recently obtained video that they claims shows former executive director NH GOP Chuck McGee (who was convicted in the infamous 2002 election day phone jamming scam -- a conviction later overturned on appeal) discussing plans for a "damaging" tactic to be executed late in the election against NH Democrats.
The conference call could be interesting (defintions and interpretations of "damaging" should prove enlightening) -- the NH GOP reaction should equally spicy. Will report more later.

The giant finds its gait.

Wrong info (0.00 / 0)
Mr. McCord is incorrect in his statement that Mr. McGee's conviction was overturned.  Mr. McGee spent several months in a federal prison.  Mr. Tobin appealed his conviction, and a re-trial is still pending.

At some point this week I will do something on this, not today, however.

I was reading today (0.00 / 0)
about the push back against the Sudan divestment law spearheaded by young Democratic legislators Andy Edwards, Jeff Fontas and Scott Merrick and was thinking about the other significant legislative efforts, like the marijuana decriminalization bill which passed the house.

It should be stressed how much these young legislators have accomplished in this coming election-- particularly Andy and Jeff, in their first term-- when the NH Young Democrats is pushing on with the 603 Forward campaign.

There is a lot negative talk about how effective young people can be, how inexperienced they are, and this sort of thing. In brief reflection today, I came to the conclusion this has not been the case at all. We have seen huge accomplishments and, incidentally, pretty good attendance too. I think if this record is emphasized, a greater number of voters will be willing to give young candidates a fairer hearing than they are accustomed to.

There is a lot negative talk about how effective young people can be, how inexperienced they are, and this sort of thing.

Really? Where? NH has a long history of having young people in elective office holding leadership roles and or being among the most effective. We have often had people under 30 (I was) on the House Finance Committee etc...(a while ago, the chair of the Finance Comm. was under 30). We've had young mayors, town selectmen etc...

Our record is quite good

maybe it's just in Nashua. I was just trying to help a friend qualify to get on the ballot for a special election for school board and some of the reactions I got from people not known to me personally were pretty ridiculous.

When I was involved with this a couple of days ago, there was a risk that there would be zero (calling for a write-in campaign), or, worse, only one candidate on the ballot. Some of the opposition to even having "a choice on the ballot" because of age and perceived inexperience (compared to an unknown or nonexistent opponent) was particularly frustrating.

Luckily, even though we didn't qualify, Nashua ended up with two candidates for this seat who, I think, will present a rather stark choice.
