Dan Quayle in a pantsuit

by: Peter Sullivan

Fri Aug 29, 2008 at 11:37:40 AM EDT

In the past week, Barack Obama and John McCain have given us a clear indication of how they would run their White House.

Sen. Obama chose Joe Biden to be his running mate, a smart, seasoned, and honest statesman, respected by both Democrats and Republicans and trusted by leaders abroad.

John McCain chose Dan Quayle in a pantsuit.

The choice of Sarah Palin, the undistinguished governor of a thinly populated state with no real accomplishments, is nothing more than a crass political move. Evidently, the McCain team has seen one too many silly "puma" story on Fox or CNN, and believes that simply putting a woman on the ticket will score political points.

Obama chose someone who will help him govern effectively. McCain went for cheap political points. That says everything we need to know about the choice we face in November.

Potentially President Palin (4.00 / 2)

Monty Python's best. imho.

A Fish Callled Wanda! Two PBS series! I didn't even know he was an American. Did his folks stay in England after the war?

I am psyched.

Uh,... Jack.

Oooooh. Sa-rah Palin.

Sarah Palin?

The giant finds its gait.

Glad you said it, (0.00 / 0)
I was just thinking of Michael P. myself:

One question: who are those two smarty-pantses that voted for her in the BH Veep poll? Is Rush lurking here as a sockpuppet??? I'll fess up to casting one of the two Huckabee votes, turns out I wasn't THAT far off after all...

Have to admit that I was secretly hoping for Mitt, but this one may be even better.

I love the Quayle-in-a-pantsuit concept, but she'd probably do much better in a spelling bee. Doubly cracked up when I watched the McLaughlin Group for a while tonight (topic title: "It's a Girl" - how enlightened) and heard snarling con-woman Monica Crowley (PBS's family hour version of Ann Coulter) warn Joe Biden that he'd better not attack Palin in a debate, citing the "Hillary effect" whatever the hell that means.

Plus, they had that preppy kid whats-his-name on from the National Review singing Palin's praises. My, what an impressive resume she has. Must run at least a page and a half, right?

But McMaverick does what he's told (including learning how to pronounce his running mate's name on that cue card), or else Rush will spank...

You just can't make this stuff up, folks!

It's time for a change and I need a nap. Or is it the other way around?

If only there had been money riding on it. (4.00 / 2)
To be honest, when I voted in the poll--- I had no idea who Sarah Palin is/was... I just had a feeling he'd go for a woman simply because Obama didn't chose a woman.  If Obama had chosen a woman, he would have chosen a person of color.  Guaranteed.

Like to know when the second vote came in though?  I think as of yesterday/last night there was still only one vote for Palin.

Maybe it was "YoungTrig" who was also busily editing Palin's Wikipedia entry for 3 hours just over 24 hours ago.  See NPR story

I, too, immediately thought of Dan Quayle. (0.00 / 0)

"Danielle Quayle" (4.00 / 1)
Not mine, but making the rounds...

I had thought of that, but figured everyone else would too, heh. (0.00 / 0)

Rachel Maddow will pounce (0.00 / 0)
This pick will drive Rachel's ratings through the roof.

The giant finds its gait.

But Bush-Quayle... (0.00 / 0)
won.

I doubt that McCain or any Republicans mind that comparison.

And they lost. (4.00 / 1)
Immediately after a war we won.
In the middle of the Conservative crest.
As incumbents.
A feat that I believe in post-war history was matched only by Carter/Mondale.

They'll mind.

Wrong comparison (4.00 / 3)
I just posted this on another diary on Palin, so I'm being repetitive, but I think she is another George W. Bush.

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

She's Cheney without the Dick ... (0.00 / 0)
nuff said.

Palin is NOT Quayle - (0.00 / 0)
She will be remembered as the GOP's Tom Eagleton.
