Odd Poll?

by: elwood

Wed Sep 17, 2008 at 13:44:01 PM EDT

Yesterday I was polled by an outfit that appeared on my Caller ID as "1-231-224-2033 Research Center".

It was an actual person, not a pre-recorded call.

She asked if I was a registered voter and I said Yes.

She asked "Do you vote at this address?" and I said yes.

Then she just said "Thank you" and hung up.

It seems odd to me; I would have expected my answers to weed me IN to the sample that they wanted to ask about candidate preferences. And I can't quite figure out what other purpose might be served here.

Anyone else get one of these calls?

The strangest thing about that to me (0.00 / 0)
is that she didn't ask how likely you are to vote.

A google reveals (4.00 / 1)
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx...

They're called Mountain Research Company, and they have done all kinds of strange polls. Keep looking into it though.

Okay, this is what I get (0.00 / 0)
Mountain West Research website--

http://www.mwrcenter.com/

"Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Pocatello, Idaho, Mountain West Research Center has been collecting primary data for market research organizations since 1995. Our success, and that of our clients is based on our determination, speed, and innovation. "

They're collecting your information for future polling, maybe gallup or rasmussen or someone has commissioned them to get data for them?

the strange thing though, (0.00 / 0)
they supposedly only contact climbers.

I got a similar call last night from 800.395.4377 (0.00 / 0)
but they said something like Cole from Oregon...same beginning...it was straight until they started asking
about for whom I would vote and why...and then kinda morphed to how good or bad a job Congress is doing...I asked to define Congress since there are, ahem, two chambers in a bi-cameral system...they would not accept that teh House has been doing great but we need more Democrats in the Senate
it was a gentle push poll for Horn I believe, about how much we don't like the job Congress is doing...at that point I hung up. They called back to complete, I told them to burn in hell.

This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.
