SD-3: Who Needs a Bailout? Run for State Senate Instead!

by: Dean Barker

Wed Sep 24, 2008 at 05:57:44 AM EDT

Pindell found a good one:
The Republican running in the state Senate District 3 seat vacated by Joe Kenney is facing serious questions as to why his mortgage business failed.

Maine's Attorney General is suggesting Downeast Mortgage Corp, which state Rep. Bill Denley founded 21 years ago, was prosecuted and agreed to a fine for alledgely advising a couple of a scheme whereby they could apply as a business to get around residential lending rules. Denley said the lawsuit did not make his company go under in the spring, but instead it was the nationwide housing crisis.

Because of Kenney's fool's errand for gov, this is an open seat, so it's one we have a decent shot at picking up given this news.

The Democrat in the race is Judge Bud Martin. Check out his web site.  This one is definitely on my list to watch going forward.

Those newspaper candidate profiles need a new (4.00 / 3)
template for the modern day Republican. Something like:

Name:
Town/City:
Occupation:
Why I am running for []:
Current indictments / investigations:

Not surprising, but a clear sign of desperation. (0.00 / 0)
Thanks for posting, Dean. I forwarded the Salon link to the editor of my local paper as a heads-up, with the suggestion that if any such letters turned up it could actually become a story, especially if they duplicated letters in other states.

We have to keep shining the bright lights on these cucarachas, that's for sure!

They. Don't. Care.
We do.
Rinse, repeat.

Whoa! This was supposed to be posted under the phony letters thread! (0.00 / 0)
Sorry. Must be lack of sleep...

They. Don't. Care.
We do.
Rinse, repeat.

The same thing happened to me yesterday (4.00 / 2)
Let's keep an eye out for it being a software problem.

Oh he's right (0.00 / 0)
It was not the lawSUIT that broke his business.

It was the law that he -- what's the word? -- bent?

Here's a hint, Rep. Denley: When you're trying to "get around" the rules, there is something ... amiss.

Bud Martin (0.00 / 0)
is a great candidate. There's an interview on his site that tells a lot about what a remarkable guy he is.
