It's a Blue Movie: "John Lynch and the No Cost Democrats"

by: robsprague

Discontent over Gov. Lynch's-unfunded-but-required Kindergarten is spreading. Last week, Salem's budget committee balked at the cost of kindergarten for its youngsters. And Hudson is planning to sue the State over the matter. Ironically, Governor Lynch and his 49 peers around the country constantly beg the federal government not to place any more unfunded mandates at their doors. Yet at the same instant Lynch and his Dem legislature play the exactly same mandate game to cities & towns in New Hampshire. So. Lynch takes credit in his inaugural address for requiring Kindergarten. Lynch gets enormous applause from his fellow pols (even though he blows the line). Adequate money to fund Kindergartens is not forthcoming from the State. Cities and towns are left holding the bag. And the elderly homeowners in New Hampshire who can no longer afford to pay their property taxes are left to fend for themselves. It's a Blue Movie. About No Cost Democrats.

Discontent is spreading? (4.00 / 2)

I believe that of 25375 towns and cities across the US Salem and Hudson are the only 2 that will not provide for public kindergarten in 2009, not sure I call that spreading.  They should both be ashamed.  The conversation the rest of the country is having is about funding pre-K.

Kindergarten unfunded? (4.00 / 1)
The other odd comment was the idea that the state didn't fund kindergarten. It did, by funding 100% of the design cost and 75% of any constructions costs, as well as additional transition building aid. Oh, plus additional aid per student.

So the author was wrong about the discontent spreading, and wrong about the funding. Facts can be so annoying. At least he got the name of the Governor right.

My how smarmy Michael (0.00 / 0)
Do you think that he got the dissatisfaction wrong as well? It is good to be clear about the problems and the opinions of the peons. Have you seen the outrage on UL about the kindergarten? I would rather have criticisms of the ideas and predictions not so much. No child left behind has spawned a general belief that the feds pass on the requirements and then don't fund them. In sum I bet that is correct.
