Crow Dickinson -domestic violence is just a gimmick

by: susanthe

Fri Feb 20, 2009 at 13:13:07 PM EST

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

There's a furor a-brewing in Conway. The Conway Selectmen (that's right - 5 men) voted 4-1 against recommending that any town monies go to our local non-profit that works with, shelters, and provides support for victims of domestic and/or sexual violence. Crow Dickinson, former state rep. remarked that a lot of women use domestic violence as a "gimmick" in divorces.

I'm beginning to understand why voters sent him to Concord for so many years. They wanted to get his dinosaur ass out of town for at least part of the year.

AP story

The Conway Daily Sun is behind a paywall - but there are some quotes from articles printed in the last two days (along with some pithy commentary) on my blog.

I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember Mr. Dickinson as one of a (0.00 / 0)
handful of Republicans who came out to back Jeb Bradley during his first debate with Carol Shea-Porter in Conway.  Bradley's crew was mainly impressive for their sense of entitlement and their apparent disdain for the fact that the majority of the audience was rooting for the Democrat.

Perhaps he's still irked at being booted from the Legislature in the same election that sent Shea-Porter to Washington.

Somebody should have kept that woman in her place!

Women! (4.00 / 1)
You marry us just to divorce us, using your gimmicks.

Blech. (0.00 / 0)
Didn't he get popped for trying to carry a gun on a plane with him after 9/11? Or was that some other Neanderthal?

No, that was Crow! (0.00 / 0)
He had a .38 in his carry-on bag, and was surprised when the TSA folks wanted to have a word with him.

Dickinson, it appears, regularly "packs heat," and we don't just mean when he is taking a trip. Otherwise, the weight of a fully loaded .38 would have been a tip-off to him that there was a little something extra in his bag.

The Conway lawmaker has a permit to carry a concealed weapon - for what reason we don't know. On the official state Web site, his occupation is listed as "forester." We don't know the last time someone had to use a firearm to fend off an attack by a tree.

Crow is known to be a connoisseur of cocktails. It seems likely that  may have played a role in this incident.

"Get popped" (0.00 / 0)
Stopped by the cops. Charges dropped. Popped?

GOPped.

is right. Other people around the nation were arrested for similar offenses in that time period.

Apparently "forestry" is far more dangerous than we know.

50% (4.00 / 1)
Is the percentage of women who don't report being domestically abused. Imagine the percentage of women who do finally muster the courage to divorce their abusive spouses.

It's disgusting Mr. Dickinson would even approach such a serious matter with such nonchalance.

Divorce law isn't perfect, (0.00 / 0)
But domestic violence is no gimmick.

Crow (0.00 / 0)
As I remember, Crow's comment to the TSA folks went something like this - "Is that where I left that gun?"

Perhaps he doth protest too much (0.00 / 0)
Crow's been divorced at least once.  It'd be interesting to read that decree.

Why do you say socialism like it's a bad thing?
