Today OFA-NH Volunteers Meet With U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen

by: KrisSchultz

Fri Apr 17, 2009 at 18:11:52 PM EDT

(Because it's worth reminding everyone all the time that Jeanne Shaheen vote to keep climate change action in the budget reconciliation process - promoted by Dean Barker)

Today a group of Organizing for America (OFA) volunteers from New Hampshire met with U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen.  We did so to express our gratitude for her support of President Barack Obama's agenda, specifically her votes supporting his budget and plan for economic recovery. It went VERY well. CLICK HERE to see photos.

Most of us volunteered for both the Obama and Shaheen campaigns, which she acknowledged at the beginning of the meeting.

We had a lovely exchange with her regarding the need for accessible, affordable health care for all, as well as for a clean environment.  She's a strong advocate for both of those issues, as well as for fiscal responsibility and education.  Those four points are the key components of  President Barack Obama's budget priorities.

KrisSchultz :: Today OFA-NH Volunteers Meet With U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen
As many of you know, OFA NH volunteers organized a number of pre-Inaugural service projects.  Many of those projects have continued.  We invited her to join us during the volunteer projects we're continuing to do at Concord-area service organizations.  She said they've packed food before at the NH Food Bank.

We also let her know that we'd love to continue to be supportive of her, knowing that her agenda for New Hampshire is similar to the President's, especially regarding those 4 key points.  The certificate of gratitude that we gave her included this message:

- Making health care affordable for all Americans.
- Investing in clean energy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
- Improving education so our children can compete in a global economy.
- Cutting the budget deficit in half by the end of the President's first term.

She also told us a bit more about this morning's meeting with U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today in Epping, joined by Governor John Lynch, Congressman Paul Hodes and Congresswoman Carol Shea Porter.

It's the first New Hampshire stimulus road project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.   I know that all three of our cool NH Federal Delegation members made the strong case to bring rail from Lowell up through Nashua, Manchester and Concord.  (Listen to this NHPR piece called "A SHOT AT HIGH SPEED RAIL.", which includes an interview with Secretary LaHood.)

Monday we're holding our third "THANK YOU" meeting with Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter in Manchester.  Our first was with Congressman Paul Hodes last week in Concord.

Bottom line: We are grateful for U.S. Senator Shaheen, Congressman Hodes, and Congresswoman Shea-Porter!

Isn't it great.... (4.00 / 4)
To be able to say thank you to one of our senators and our two congressmen?  What a difference to have Jeanne Shaheen!

And Kris, what a great idea for you and OFA-NH to do these visits.  I'm grateful to OFA-NH for the work it continues to do!

THANK YOU! (4.00 / 3)
YES, it feels FANTASTIC to be able to thank Senator Shaheen and our two fantastic members of congress. They are doing a great job working for the people of New Hampshire.  It feels REALLY good, and I'm deeply grateful to have had this opportunity.

OFA-NH is only just getting started, too!

And GRATITUDE is contagious!

I'm reminded of something I heard recently:  "If the only prayer you ever say is THANK YOU, than it will have been enough."  Something like that.

Anyone know the real quote?
