Freedom? You've Got to Do Better Than That

Just kill me now.

Yeah, we've got to do better than freedom. 'Cause that's just another word for ... I forget.

Rick Sanchez is right (who could have seen this coming?) (0.00 / 0)
Jim DeMint isn't talking about freedom.  Jim DeMint is talking about 'freedom'.  As in 'freedom fries', that kind of freedom.  This is war on language stuff.

That made me laugh too. (4.00 / 1)
It was an awkward moment for both.

DeMint, used to cable news not really doing real journalism, so he can just spout his talking points.

Sanchez, used to cable news not really doing real journalism, blurting out the truth in somewhat less reporterly tones.

Freedom is obedience to the law. (4.00 / 1)
Or, as it says over the entrance to the Presidio,

Obedience to the law is Freedom

--i.e. if you don't obey (follow orders), you don't deserve to be free.

If salvation is freeing man from original sin, then those who have not been saved are, ipso facto, not free.  Freedom is not the same as liberty.  Liberty is an ab initio condition; freedom has to be achieved.

Liberals, as lovers of liberty, are not properly subservient to the social order.

The biggest tent of all is freedom? (4.00 / 1)
That's pretty metaphysical. I guess what he is saying is that the Democratic party loves freedom more than the GOP, because we have a bigger tent. Or something.

I love Sen. Inhofe's take on the Spector's defection:  He thinks it foreshadows a Republican landslide in midterm elections
"This is the first visible evidence that what happened in 1993 is happening again now."

For anyone who has been paying attention to the GOP for more than the last 8-10 years. Were they ALWAYS this crazy? or is this a recent phenomenum?

It started in the late (0.00 / 0)
seventies when they made a pact with Falwell and those types. Then it got worse in the '90s with Newt and the "Contract on America" (the results of which we're now dealing). Remember when it was the coolest thing to be an angry white guy, like Rush and O'Reilly?

Now it's gone totally off the charts b/c over the years, the moderates and thinking conservatives have gone to the Dems or Libertarians (or are still on the sidelines). All that seem to be left are people who wear hats with teabags hanging off of them. And guys saying "Get off of my lawn." And shaking their fists in the air.
