"Experts Can Be Found On Both Sides"

by: Dean Barker

Sun May 17, 2009 at 10:05:27 AM EDT

I'm going to blockquote this, to me the perfect time capsule of marriage equality supporters, opponents, and press coverage, without commentary:
Predictably, experts can be found on both sides of this volatile social issue.

Boston University School of Law professor Linda McClain is an expert in family law and religion.

...[quote explaining Lynch's position and legal precedent]...

Brian Brown is executive director of the National Organization for Marriage, which helped bankroll the telephone call campaign and television ads opposing gay marriage.

...[quote criticizing Lynch for allegedly breaking his word]...

Sometimes ya gotta laugh (4.00 / 1)
Assuming the NT was simply negligent and not polemic in the citation of "experts", my uneasy reaction is to belly laugh, as in "those clowns."

or cry,

If the NT is intentionally attempting the heavy lift of elevating Brown from the swamp of political hackery by annointing him impartial "expert," well that is a horse of a different color.

Whack-a-mole, anyone?

Funny that you don't think a committed ideologue should be given the same expert ... (4.00 / 3)
... status as an academician.

Next you'll be saying that James Dobson's opinion when speaking about our nation's stem cell research policy is not as meaningful as that of the head of the CDC, or Grover Nyquist knows less about the economic implcations of Obama's current macro-economic policy than Brad Delong or Paul Krugman.

You'll probably be telling us that we would be better off listening to Hilary Clinton, Brent Scowcroft, and Richard Holbrook in figuring out how to solve the problems of the Middle East instead of John  Hagee and his Christians United for Isreal crowd.

And then, if you have your way, the whole cranky right-wing noise machine will come to a grinding halt.
