Kelly Ayotte continues to avoid taking a stance on extending unemployment benefits

DRicher :: Kelly Ayotte continues to avoid taking a stance on extending unemployment benefits

Candidate for U.S. Senate remains silent on key issues, not standing up for struggling NH families

Last night, the Senate advanced legislation that extends unemployment benefits to all states for 14 weeks, including NH.  The Senate voted to end debate, with a final vote on the legislation expected sometime later this week.

While New Hampshire Senator Shaheen and Congressman Hodes support the extension of benefits, Senate hopeful Kelly Ayotte has been silent on the issue.

"Does Kelly Ayotte support extending unemployment benefits for struggling New Hampshire families?" asked Derek Richer, Press Secretary for the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

"With so many struggling, the people of New Hampshire deserve to know where she stands," continued Richer.  "New Hampshire needs leaders in the Senate who will fight for them in their greatest time of need, not ones that will stay silent to gain political advantage."

Kelly Ayotte has come under fire for refusing to take a position on a range of issues.  Pressure to take a stand on the issues has come from all sides including the conservative Club for Growth.  While discussing whether the organization would oppose Ayotte in the Republican primary, Chris Chocola, head of the organization, said yesterday "it's hard to determine exactly where she stands on the issues."

Where does she stand on the minimum wage? (0.00 / 0)
Does she agree with Sen. Gregg and former Sen. Sununu that we should have a federal minimum wage of $0.00?

what has (0.00 / 0)
Kelly Ayotte taken a stand on?

sanctimonious purist/professional lefty

Kelly Ayotte is a Republican, and a conservative one at that, (0.00 / 0)
so, of course, she's opposed to the government setting wage standards.  After all, in an ideal world, people would work for free, rather than having to be paid a bribe.

Besides, conservatives are convinced that some people have to be treated badly or punished so other people will be more amenable to doing what they're told.  If the sting of being fired or laid off is removed, then the threat of having no income is lessened for those still needed to actually work.  It's the same rationale that promotes the state killing some people as a strategy for deterring others from committing similar crimes.  There's no evidence that it works, but we do know that Ms. Ayotte is a strong supporter of what she calls "capital punishment."

Threats are definitely cheaper than bribes.
