Kennedy Awards Recap & YD Farewell

by: Garth Corriveau

Sun Nov 22, 2009 at 18:49:04 PM EST

( - promoted by elwood)

First, congratulations to Dean, Mike & Laura - recipients of NHYD's highest honor (the C. Arthur Soucy Achievement Award) - and to NH Young Democrats John Barriere (JFK NH Young Dem of 2009), Jessica Clark (RFK Progressive of '09) & Karen Liot Hill (EMK Young Elected Official of 2009). All honorees are young, talented, accomplished and are doing important work to bring progress to New Hampshire. Below is a photo slideshow and YouTube videos of the '09 NHYD Kennedy Awards Celebration you won't want to miss. It was a great night.

On a personal level, as I said at the Awards, I will not seek reelection as NHYD President in January 2010, so thank you to the NH Democratic Party, the Young Democrats of America and especially the NHYD Board & our members for the privilege of working both for and with you. Together, we've shared so much success on the national, state & local levels the past two years. NHYD is in very capable hands to help elect Paul Hodes, Carol Shea-Porter & our CD2 nominee, and of course, elect Young Democrats to the Statehouse in 2010. Blue Hampshire, on the other hand, is stuck with me, even if my posts become slightly more "Manchcentric" to use Jack's term of art.

Again, thank you Young Democrats and congratulations Blue Hamsters!

If you can make it there....?

I heard the only thing tougher than the local watering holes are the community cable shows.

Blog On!

Whack-a-mole, anyone?

As Garth em-ceed the event, (4.00 / 6)
all I could think was: this is someone I am so glad to have on our team, because he has a lot to offer this state.  There is no limit to the Alderman-Elect's potential, I think.

Oh, and thanks for the award - it was a really fun night.

And thank you for the incredibly kind words!

From One Former NHYD President... (0.00 / 0)
...to another soon-to-be, congratulations for continuing to develop the organization well, and  best wishes for your future efforts to make Manchester, New Hampshire, and the nation better.

My time with the NHYDs in the late 1960s and early 1970s was at a time of war and upheaval in this country, much like yours.  In the past 40 years we've had lots of ups and downs.  While the "ups" have been wonderful, the "downs" have been too numerous -- war and killing, decades of heavy pollution of the Earth and an increase of poverty worldwide, viruses, and economic greed.  But the possibilities exist that the young people of today can figure out a way to lead so that there is reason to be more optimistic about the next 40 years.

Congratulations! (4.00 / 7)
I want to add my congratulations to the fantastici NHYDs for yet another terrific year and Awards event.

The results of the talent of the NHYDs speak for itself. The success in attracting a new generation of leaders to serve in public office, support our candidates and become leaders within the Democratic Party has made a siginificant difference.

Garth and his entire team deserve much praise and thanks for their efforts and each awardee more than deserve recognition for their hard work.

Congratulations!

2012 starts today.

And... (4.00 / 1)
My apologies for not being able to join you. I was in Gorham for the Coos County Democrats meeting.

2012 starts today.

So fun... (4.00 / 3)
...to share in this night of celebration!! What a great group to be a part of. Thank you so much for honoring me with the Ted Kennedy award. Such a thrill...

I love the supportive network that is developing for progressive leaders at all levels of government in this state. Thank you to the New Hampshire Young Democrats and the Blue Hampshire community for all that you do!

And congratulations, of course, to Garth for a wonderful tenure as President of the Young Dems. Your leadership has been outstanding.

Change is inevitable, but progress is not. Working together, we can make sure that change = progress. And that's what makes us progressive...

Thank You (0.00 / 0)
Garth, you're an incredible asset to New Hampshire.  Your leadership as NHYD President will truly be missed.
