Not Anti-Gay, Just Anti-Normal

by: Dean Barker

Tue Jan 26, 2010 at 06:10:32 AM EST

Rep. Bates:
...the legislator behind the drive, insisted the petitions should be characterized not as "an anti-gay movement" but as a mechanism to enhance democracy by making sure legislators are representing their constituents.
Rep. Baldasaro:
So because I disagree on something that's pushed down my throat, I'm supposed to roll over because, representative, you think it's normal? I'm sorry you got the wrong person.

..."I wanted to make sure everyone understood here, that this legislature sold the rights of $10,000 per kid under title four, when they said that homosexual couples, not married, can adopt."

"So we sold each kid to a homosexual couple that's not married for $10,000," Baldasaro said.

..."What about the Muslims now?," he asked."Everyone's praising the Muslims. They're killing us. What about them, they want three, four wives. We're discriminating against them."

and:
When reached Monday Baldasaro said he stands by his comment and that Buckley "can kiss my ass."

..."Why wouldn't I put it out there? I stand by the statement and I have nothing to hide. It is the truth and it is my right to free speech," he said.

With the exception of John H. Sununu, the NHGOP was quick to distance itself from GrokGate. I wonder what will happen in the case of one of their elected party members.

The thing is, if Dems (4.00 / 3)
don't work hard, organize, even run for office themselves, there's a good chance Baldasaro, and others who think like him but are less - um- outspoken, will be in control of this state come 2011.

Local state rep and state senate races are more  important than ever this coming November.

Right. The Pendulum Of Politics... (4.00 / 2)
...isn't just a theory.  We need new candidates to step up in those places where we're losing House members, and we need help in some of our tougher Legislative Districts -- House and Senate.  In 2010 we won't have some of the national motivation to vote for us that we had in 2006 and 2008; in fact, there is some incentive to go to the polls to vote against us.

"All politics is local" only applies when our neighbors actually go to the polls to vote, so we need to maintain the turnout of the past couple of cycles to have a chance of doing well.

And Don't Forget... (4.00 / 6)
2010 isn't just an election year, it's a census year. The party that wins the legislature this November will take the lead in redistricting for the next decade. If the Republicans regain control, you know they'll draw the House and Senate maps to maximize Republican seats with gerrymandered districts. Yes, that's inside baseball, but it's another reason every Democrat has to work harder than ever this campaign season.

Moscow's Mayor and Baldasarro - birds of a feather? (4.00 / 2)
"Moscow's mayor, Yuri M. Luzhkov, an outspoken opponent of gay rights groups, vowed Monday to again prevent a gay parade in the city. Mr. Luzhkov referred to gay parades as "satanic"... "It's high time that we stop propagating nonsense discussions about human rights, and bring to bear on them the full force and justice of the law"... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01...

What a disgrace (0.00 / 0)
What towns does this fellow represent?

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."  Franklin D. Roosevelt

Londonderry/Auburn (0.00 / 0)
In a special election in 2006, rather than let Baldasaro represent them, voters opted to elect a Democrat for the first time in 150 years. He's far from unbeatable.

Repressed desires??? (4.00 / 1)
What is this conservative fascination with things being shoved down their throats? (Not to mention asking a gay man to kiss his ass.) Or, in Rush's words, bending over and grabbing one's ankles?

Are these guys all trying to repress homosexual tendencies?

WMUR coverage... (4.00 / 2)
I don't know how to embed, but WMUR ran a piece on the Baldasaro comments on the evening news.

Most irritating is his comment that he "meant no disrespect."  Right.  Sure.

But to end on a good note, Go Kathy!
