Governor Stephen: A Preview

by: Dean Barker

Sun Feb 28, 2010 at 20:11:36 PM EST

Governor Stephen, in 2011, repealing marriage equality:
"Gay couples should be given the opportunity to enter into contractual arrangements as anyone. However, the federal government should not be forced to recognize civil unions that are attempts at marriage by another name."
As a side note, has the NHGOP yet realized what a mistake this is?  John Stephen makes possible something heretofore elusive: a wildly enthused Democratic base - for John Lynch!  I mean, our Stephen tag says it all; the guy was a DHHS disaster.

And furthermore, it invites welcome scrutiny into the Craig Benson era, and Stephen's and Ayotte's roles in it.

What conservatives prefer NOT to understand is that (0.00 / 0)
agents of government are perforce constrained and coerced.  We the people pay them to do what we want done.

Perhaps we should send all these candidates to Justice Kennedy so he can explain the difference between agent and owner.  We the people own the nation and govern our affairs.  That's what having the power means.

The Constitution is a prescription for what the agents of government may and must do.  "May" implies discretion.  "Must" is an order and one of the "musts" is that each person shall be treated as an equal.

Btw, as Kennedy says, "the issuance of a permit is not a matter of grace"--i.e. no discretion.  If the form has been properly filled in, then the permit must be issued.  Conservatives like that perspective when it comes to the EPA issuing permits to industries to pollute.

"Given the opportunity!" (0.00 / 0)
What is it about rights that this rightist doesn't understand?

Or is right just an arrow to direct attention to the left?
