Jack Mitchell :: Attn: Veterans and Military Families Event
Please consider attending this event. If you are reading this, you likely have some connection that enticed you read this diary.

I'll say right up front, this event will be geared more towards listening to and engaging the audience. Stump speeches are great, dont get me wrong. But these are historic times in the Veterans and Military Families community. Things are HAPPENING!

President Obama just signed in to law:
Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2009
Which will:
- Fulfill VA's obligation to care for the nation's wounded veterans by providing their   caregivers with training, counseling, supportive services, and a living stipend
- Provide health care to the family caregivers of injured veterans under CHAMPVA
- Require independent oversight of the caregiver program

The bill will also provide numerous other improvements for veterans, by:
- Expanding health care services for women veterans
- Reaching out to veterans living in rural areas
- Improving VA's mental health care programs
- Removing barriers to care for catastrophically disabled veterans
- Enhancing a variety of VA medical services
- Strengthening VA's ability to recruit and retain a first-class health-care workforce
- Improving and increasing services to homeless veterans

The First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden have been very active in championing the cause for Military Families.

Supporting military families is a top Obama Administration priority. April is Month of the Military Child and gives the nation the opportunity to recognize the character, strength and sacrifices of America's military children as well as the role they play in the armed forces community. Today, there are 1.7 million American children and youth under 18-years-old with a parent serving in the military and approximately 900,000 children and youth with one or both parents deployed multiple times. Learn more about the Month of the Military Child here.

Yet there is much, much more to do.

Kuster For Congress

Annie's father Malcolm McLane was a decorated fighter pilot in WWII who was shot down in the Battle of the Bulge and held for six months in a German prison camp. Annie's father-in-law, Bob Kuster, served in the infantry on communications and was on the beaches of Normandy and was among the first to liberate the concentration camps. Bob Kuster spent the last several years of his life in the new Alzheimer's wing of the Veterans Home in Tilton.

Please come to Concord on Saturday and help shape the conversation.

Veterans and Military Families Event (4.00 / 2)

I do hope you can make it to the veterans event for Annie this Saturday. To share your thoughts and concerns with her. If you served our country or have a loved one serving, she really wants to hear from you.

Thank you for your service to America.
