NH-Sen: Money for Nothing

by: Dean Barker

Sun Jun 28, 2009 at 07:07:34 AM EDT

When do you think self-funder (and likely Mike Gravel supporter) Fred Tausch will realize he's just being used as a proxy candidate to soften up Paul Hodes until the real NHGOP approved nominee is annointed?

Because he's being drained dry right now by all the usual suspects:

Last week, Tausch bought air time on WMUR for an ad produced by D.C.-based Stevens, Reed, Curci & Potholm, a top Republican agency that's done ads for Saxby Chambliss, John McCain, and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. It's somewhat jolting to see ads that say at the bottom "Paid for by Fred Tausch, Nashua."

Meanwhile, Tausch/STEWARD is inviting everyone to a free barbecue at Jillian's in Manchester with him and state Sen. / Manchester mayoral candidate Ted Gatsas on July 3, featuring face-painting, balloons, sundaes, hot dogs, hamburgers and more.

Tausch, who gave a maximum $2,300 contribution to Obama in September, gave $10,000 to the New Hampshire State Republican Committee in March.

He's even got Grappone and Hynes working for him.

It all reminds me of Richie Rich Tarrant in the 2006 VT-Senate race against Bernie Sanders.  They had so much leftover campaign detritus from out-of-control over-funding that they were planting Tarrant for Senate signs on our side of the Connecticut river by the time election day came.

Still Waiting

I know the UL won't do it, since they've become the virtual surrogate press organ for Fred Tausch for Senate (at least until the real nominee emerges).

But is anyone from the press going to track down whether this self-funder is the same Fred Tausch who was wild for Mike Gravel not too long ago?

NH-Sen: Tausch Inching Closer to a Run

by: Dean Barker

Sun May 31, 2009 at 05:28:08 AM EDT

Says Tom Fahey:
There may be a new U.S. Senate candidate sending literature to your mailbox soon. In fact, it may be there already, from STEWARD of Prosperity, the group founded by Nashua investor Fred Tausch. He's working with Concord's Michael Dennehy, the former national political director for Sen. John McCain, and has targeted announced Democratic Senate candidate U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes in the most recent STEWARD mailer.

Tausch said, "A number of people have encouraged me to run for office, and that's not something I've ruled out." Tausch said when he founded his group early this year that he supported Barack Obama's presidential campaign. He contributed $2,300 to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Tausch said Friday he's a registered Republican.

I like this move, because he's a self-funder, so that should give the Sununu-Bass dynamic some heartburn.

And maybe the higher public profile will also help tease out from reporters whether or not he was a Mike Gravel supporter.

$100,000

by: Dean Barker

Fri Feb 13, 2009 at 06:16:07 AM EST

Dude, if I had a hundred grand to spend on Blue Hampshire, this place would be Teh Awesome. Stimulus I could believe in!

Seriously, though, this doesn't pass the sniff test, as evidenced by how it magically made all the regular right-wing old and new media within hours of DiStaso's column. It's about as organic and grassrootsy a website as the cream filling in a Twinkie.

And is Fred Tausch the same guy as this Mike Gravel-supporting Fred Tausch (or this one?), pushing a blog that's since been closed to the public, but whose YouTube channel was created by another wealthy Nashua man?  What's going on here?
