"We wanted the site to be an inspiring reminder to the world that this city will never forget our dead and never stop living. We vowed to bring Lower Manhattan back - stronger than ever - as a symbol of our defiance and I think it's fair to say we have. Today, it is more of a community neighborhood than ever before, with more people than ever living, working, playing and praying there.
"But if we say that a mosque or a community center should not be built near the perimeter of the World Trade Center site, we would compromise our commitment to fighting terror with freedom.
Former Amb. George Bruno is a member of a Jewish Temple in Manchester. He's a non-Jew who along his Jewish spouse is an active member of the Congregation. As this article from UL shows, the accepting of the 'other', the dropping of barriers is all is takes. This former diplomat has the skills we need to pull a community together.

Muslims, Jews join to bring Christmas spirit to needy
MANCHESTER - Men and women filled their plates from long tables heaped with all manner of food throughout Christmas day at New Horizons Soup Kitchen on Manchester Street.
Starting early in the morning, Jews and Muslims worked side by side preparing the feast for about 125 people.
For more than 25 years, the Jewish community has taken over the kitchen on Dec. 25, said George Bruno, of Temple Adath Yeshurun of Manchester. "About three years ago, we invited people from the Muslim community ... It's a good joining of the communities."
"The purpose of our being here is to give people the day off to celebrate Christmas," said Ahmed Tahoun, of the Islamic Society of Greater Manchester.

"We want (the people) to feel this is their holiday and there are brothers and sisters from other religions who love them," said Deek.
For Steve Soreff of Etz Hayim Synagogue, of Derry, there is even more to it. "What we are able to do for these people (having meals) is good, but the real story is our working together," he said. "Ahmed and I working together -- talking -- is what it's all about. If we can do this here, we can do it all over the world."
Everyone working seemed to agree that sharing the experience dispels stereotypes. "We find out what unites us," said Tahoun, of the Islamic Society. "I think we should get together more often."
A Clinton Democrat, an Ambassador, a Christian born man brings together Jews and Muslims for a common cause, to express their common faith in action. That's a good story. It lends hope and gives 'peace a chance'in the New Year.

It strikes me as we hear the names Shaheen and Sununu everyday in the Senate race, that no one suggests they are unpatriotic, or expresses sentiments that they are Muslim leaners, because of their names. Barack Hussein Obama, well you see where I'm going don't you ? He's been called Halfrican American by Rush the blowhard, many still think he's Muslim, or secretly so. Why not the others ? Is it because they appear white ? Please suggest what is wrong with this picture ? Am I barking up the wrong family tree ? I think it is blatant, perhaps subconscious, but blatant none the less.
So when will the major media outlets make as big a deal of this as they did with the Hillary staffers who sent the bogus Madrassa email? John Deady, co-chair of state Veterans for Rudy, thinks Muslims ought to chased "back to their caves," and gotten rid of. But don't take my word for it:
TPM, which caught hold of this, was so dumbstruck that they actually followed up with Deady for a clarification. Was he just referring to terrorists? Not so much. "I don't subscribe to the principle that there are good Muslims and bad Muslims. They're all Muslims." He's also into racial profiling, too, if you care to click the link.
Man, between supporters like these, and foreign policy advisors like warmonger Norman Podhoretz, a Rudy! presidency would be wicked scary. Good thing he's sinking like a stone in the polls. Here's hoping Ron Paul's one useful moment is coming in ahead of Mr. 9-11 on primary day.
