Ralph Nader

Ron Paul Tells 18,346 NH Voters Not to Vote for McCain

by: Dean Barker

Wed Sep 10, 2008 at 05:00:00 AM EDT

18,346 - that's the number of Republicans who voted for Ron Paul in the New Hampshire Primary, according to the SoS.

And that could mean 18,346 fewer votes for John McCain here:

Paul, who unsuccessfully sought the Republican presidential nomination, will tell supporters he is not endorsing GOP nominee John McCain or Democratic nominee Barack Obama, and will instead give his seal of approval to four candidates: Green Party nominee Cynthia McKinney, Libertarian Party nominee Bob Barr, independent candidate Ralph Nader, and Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin, according to a senior Paul aide.
And as fortune would have it, Barr and Nader both made it on the ballot for this November.

Unfortunately, This Ralph Nader Guy Is No Joke

by: Rep. Jim Splaine

Sun Feb 24, 2008 at 17:59:55 PM EST

( - promoted by Laura Clawson)

The modern-day Harold Stassen, Ralph Nader, who should know better, is at it again.

Unfortunately, unlike the nine Presidential runs that Stassen made -- which made him into a joke -- Ralph Nader is NO joke.  And all this delusion on his part is simply turning his once-stellar career into a sad end.

WHY is he doing this?  It's a good question.  Nader tries to answer that by saying "politics must change" or that all politicians are to be distrusted, but that just won't cut it this time.

I liked Nader-Of-Old when he was a crusader for the consumer.  His mid-1960s "Unsafe At Any Speed" was a book and a cause that has saved thousands of lives from automobile crashes.  But allowing George W. Bush to be elected in 2000 -- and yes HE -- Ralph Nader -- had a dirty hand in that -- has cost countless thousands of other lives in an unnecessary war gone lost.

When Ralph Nader's obituary is written, it will likely begin with something like "Perennial Presidential candidate Ralph Nader, who many acknowledge was responsible for the election of George W. Bush in 2000..." instead of "Consumer advocate and auto safety crusader Ralph Nader, who many credit with taking on corporations and getting them to be more responsible in what they produce and sell..."

Let's just hope his obit doesn't also mention helping get John McCain elected in 2008.

I'm an optimistic guy who thinks that in the end most people choose to do the right thing, even if they don't want to.  So I'm keeping the door open that eventually Ralph Nader won't go through with a campaign for 2008.  And that if he does, he'll get no votes, even from his "friends."

And I'm optimistic that perhaps he'll see that his job of taking on corporate America isn't yet finished, and he'll refocus his many talents and obviously incredible energies on that.

Or, does he have a secret agenda at play?

Nader Nadir?

by: Mike Hoefer

Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 15:27:52 PM EST

Let's see if I can lure Ray and Kathy out with this one.

As well known round these parts, in the 2000 General Election Nader garnered 22,198 votes. Al Gore out performed him 12:1 but lost to GWB by 7216 votes. CW says those are votes that would have gone for Gore (as opposed to votes that would not have voted). Even if Gore had just 7217 of those Nader votes we would likely be wrapping up year number eight of the Gore/Lieberman (that is strange to type) Administration.

As we have seen on our BH pages this statement is certainly true:

Nader is still loathed by many Democrats who call him a spoiler and claim his candidacy in 2000 cost Democrats the election by siphoning votes away from Al Gore in a razor-thin contest in Florida. Nader has vociferously disputed the spoiler claim, saying only Democrats are to blame for losing the race to George W. Bush

By now I'm sure you have all heard

The consumer advocate will appear on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday to announce whether he will launch another White House bid. Nader kicked off his 2004 presidential run on the show.

If he runs, how will he do in NH this time around? To me his appeal would be support for Universal, Single Payer, Health Care. But that is not enough to consider voting for him.

What about you?

Who do you think would vote for Nader in NH in 2008? He pulled 3.9% of the vote in 2000, would he approach that % again in 08?

(Pull quotes from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...

(Hypothetical for another day... Would Gore/Lieberman have been reelected in 2004? Who would they have faced in the General?)

GOP Operative and Phony Nader Supporter May Launch Pro-Sununu PAC

by: Dean Barker

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 11:05:09 AM EST

Rumor had it that GOP consultant and longtime John Sununu backer Dave Carney is planning to start a pro-Sununu 527 with a goal of raising $2 million to spend in his upcoming Senate re-election battle.

We took it to Carney, who said he's done no such thing and underlined that he has no role in the Sununu campaign. But he wouldn't knock the notion.

"Although it's a good idea - I may do it - I've never had a discussion with a single person about it," Carney said.

Let's get one thing straight - after Carney's shameless attempt to manipulate Nader supporters four years ago, there is no reason whatsoever to believe his denial - the man's word is not bond.

One-time Papa Bush political director Carney, as you may remember (and as Kathy S. remnded us recently) orchestrated a Nader ballot petition in 2004.  Gee, I wonder why he would have done that? No doubt for the same reason the DoJ slow-walked the Tobin phone-jamming indictment - to give Bush the edge in the razor thin Kerry-Bush 2004 race in NH.

Carney offered cold cash to GOoPers who would help fill names on the petition on the one hand, while on the other spoke oh-so-nobly about democracy:

Meanwhile, Nader is finding support from an unusual source: Republicans who feel his name on the ballot would boost Bush's chances in New Hampshire. Dave Carney, a prominent Republican strategist and staffer in the first Bush White House, lent his own signature to the effort. His company, Norway Hill, is offering a dollar per signature to any like-minded Republicans who collect names for Nader's ballot drive.

"I personally think it's a good thing for the country," Carney said. "I would encourage everybody, regardless of their affiliation, to help get the guy on the ballot. If you don't belong to a major party in this state, they treat you like an alien."

These are the kinds of creatures we will be going up against in our quest to get John E. an early retirement package.  Be prepared.
