It's Official!

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

Earlier this morning, after a great pancake breakfast with more than 200 supporters, I officially filled out the paperwork to become a Democratic candidate for the US Senate.

I want to thank those of you who joined me this morning at the Statehouse. Not only was it a truly humbling show of support for Peggo and me, but it was also a great sign of things to come as we get close to November 2.

Canvassing in NH Today

by: twilf48

Sat Sep 27, 2008 at 21:51:47 PM EDT

Cross-posted from DailyKos

I traveled from Western Massachusetts to Southwestern New Hampshire, today for my first ever volunteer canvassing effort.  The small office was packed with people - both locals and many from Massachusetts - and quite organized.  We received a list of folks to visit, a map with each house identified, and a brief training.

I was on a team with three other men. We knocked on 74 homes in 3.5 hours or so, seeking to speak only with people who had previously been identified as undecided voters (including Democrats, Republicans, and Independents).  I came away excited and inspired at what we found.

Joe Biden speaks to New Hampshire at a Town Hall in Nashua

by: Brian P. Clark

Thu Sep 11, 2008 at 00:33:36 AM EDT

(Thanks Brian - promoted by Dean Barker)

Hi. I'm Brian, a staffer from the Obama/Biden campaign. Wanted to share this delightful day with everyone...

Senator Joe Biden was in Nashua, New Hampshire today and motivated the crowd at the Nashua Community College.

The crowd of over 500 felt the urgency as the days tick away toward November 4th. This election is different. We can no longer sit back and wait for others to make it better. This election is about us; each one of us; you, me, and our neighbors coming out and talking to each other about how we can change the world ourselves. This is new.

Senator Biden knows the change we need. You know the change we need. It's clear and it includes addressing the healthcare crisis, the energy crisis, the housing crisis, the education crisis... how many crises can we take all at once? We need solutions that make sense for all hard working Americans, like those below, who came to hear about this change.

We need you to motivate. We need you to get involved. We need you to talk to your neighbors in New Hampshire and spread the word. Without you, we cannot reach out to everyone it will take to win this crucial state. It's going to be close here in New Hampshire, real close. There are so many Independents, Republicans, and Democrats that want the change Barack Obama and Joe Biden will bring. You can bring that change too! Come to your nearest Field Office. Undecided voters are waiting. They need to hear from you. Our problems won't get solved without you!

Hello Blue Hampshire!

by: Brian P. Clark

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 17:12:35 PM EDT

My name is Brian and I am a staff member from the Obama campaign at our state headquarters in Manchester.

I wanted to introduce myself to the wonderful readers on BlueHampshire. Previously the Obama state pages were active during the primaries and most people read the blog on the main site. Now the content on NH.BarackObama.com is continuously active and updated. Please visit it often as I'm looking forward to your comments and ideas as we hit roll on through this historical campaign season.

The main role of the New Hampshire for Obama site is to be both a resource and action network for people who want more information on the campaign, what's going on across the state, and how to get involved.

Some events and highlights coming up include:

1. Across the state there are Organizational Meetings tonight, Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Some of them are highlighted on http://nh.barackobama.com but you can also find more by clicking "More Events >>" on that right sidebar on the main New Hampshire state page.

2. Did you hear there's some huge event happening in Denver, Colorado next week? Crazy. But since only the lucky people get to go, we're going to do it up big in the Granite State too. Go to http://my.barackobama.com/conv... to find a Convention Watch Party near you. Senator Obama's speech Thursday, August 28th is going to be amazing!

3. Are you curious about who the VP is going to be? Me too. Everyone keeps asking me, but I don't know. But I do know that you can Be the First to Know by texting VP to OBAMA (62262) - standard rates apply - or by signing up at http://my.barackobama.com/first. The announcement could happen any day now! DON'T WAIT!

4. If you or anyone have questions about how to register to vote - we've created the New Hampshire Election Headquarters at http://my.barackobam.com/NHEle... You can find election information there and even download an Absentee Ballot application from the Secretary of State's website if you know you're going to be out of town on November 4th.

There's so much more on the New Hampshire for Obama website but that should be a good start for you. We also keep the state Blog up-to-date and relevant, so please come and comment and let me know what you think.

Enjoy and I look forward to reading all of your posts on Blue Hampshire too.

Kind regards,
Brian P. Clark

P.S. I'm so happy that one of New Hampshire's own Ed Prouty from Atkinson was the historical 2,000,000 donor to our campaign. Thank you!

This weekend during John Edwards' trip to New Hampshire he spoke with voters and answered questions on a wide range of topics - everything from the recent vote on Iran to his detailed plans on how to overhaul No Child Left Behind.

There was one topic, however, that really stood out. With the threat of  President Bush's veto of the recently passed S-CHIP legislation hanging in the air, health care was a hot topic.  Over and over again voters asked the question:  Why, do we, the richest country in the world, not have the universal health care we need?  This weekend at New Hampshire town halls and house parties across the state John addressed this issue and explained exactly why so many American's are still without health care - because Bush and his GOP cronies sold Americans' health care to drug company and health insurance lobbyists.

Since 1998, drug company lobbyists have spent over $1.2 billion on lobbying. In 2004, Bush and the Republican leaders of the Medicare Part D Prescription drug plan took over $14 million from drug company lobbyists. The drug companies and the health care industry spent this money because they expected something in return.  They knew what they were doing. Thanks to the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plan insurance companies got a new funding formula that causes taxpayers to overpay private HMOs to deliver benefits that the government could do for 12% cheaper. If we maintain this funding formula the government will overpay private HMOs $149 billion over the next decade.  This legislation was tailored for the big pharmaceutical insurance companies - rather than the people who should have mattered most - the Americans in need of affordable health care.

This Week: Darmouth Debate, MySpace/MTV Ticket Give-Away and a Special Q&A with Elizabeth Edwards

by: Amy Rubin

Tue Sep 25, 2007 at 14:18:12 PM EDT

Between the upcoming debate at Dartmouth and the 1st ever MySpace/MTV Presidential Dialogue featuring John Edwards, there is a lot going on in New Hampshire this week.

All last week there were hundreds of house meetings held across New Hampshire, but with over 100 guests, Laurie McCray, from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, hosted the biggest meeting, and won a ticket to accompany Elizabeth Edwards to this week's presidential debate at Dartmouth College. Congratulations, Laurie!

Laurie will join Elizabeth at the September 26th debate, but she's not the only one who will be able to ask Elizabeth her questions about the campaign and John's plans for change.

Before Wednesday's debate, we will sit down with Elizabeth to address some of the questions and concerns on the minds of New Hampshire voters. You can submit your own question for this special New Hampshire pre-debate video.

Elizabeth Wants YOU to be Her Guest at the Dartmouth Debate

by: Amy Rubin

Wed Sep 12, 2007 at 12:33:32 PM EDT

As we move beyond Labor Day the opportunities for New Hampshire residents to meet and talk with the candidates in town halls and family rooms , in diners and in parks, is steadily increasing. It's up close and personal and it's one on one. As a newbie to the Granite State (I recently transferred from the Edwards Chapel Hill office to our Manchester HQ to head up our New Hampshire online communications and organizing program) I'm just beginning to fully appreciate this experience.

But even beyond this unique access, New Hampshire voters also get the privilege of hosting some of the biggest political events in the country. And while catching a candidate one-on-one is no trouble at all, catching them all together, seeing how they interact, is a bit more of a challenge.  We want to change that.  On Sept. 26th Dartmouth College will be hosting the next presidential debate.  The whole country will be watching - and you could be, too - as the VIP guest of Elizabeth Edwards.  Elizabeth just happens to have an extra ticket for a New Hampshire resident, and it could be yours.  There is, of course, a catch.

Edwards in Lebanon

by: warndog

Sat May 26, 2007 at 21:00:01 PM EDT

On Monday, John Edwards brought his campaign to Keene, Claremont and Lebanon. I fully expected someone far more astute than I to report actual words and actions of the most REAL, PROGRESSIVE, PASSIONATE, COMPASSIONATE candidate running for president.

I saw him in Lebanon. He was greeted with a standing reception by the more than 200 folks who came out at dinner time to see and hear his words. More importantly, of course, to evaluate the person.

He gave about a 20 minute "stump" [I assume]speech. He delivered it sincerely and from the heart. There were a few laughs and many stops for applause. It was very clear this crowd not only liked the man; they loved what he had to say.

If you are a regular to politics, you already know about his Univeral Health Coverage proposals, that include full coverage for mental health as well. For every person in this country. Free to everyone earning less than $100,000 per year. He says we can afford it by recinding the tax cuts for the wealthy the Bushies love so much.

He opposes the war and received a standing ovation when he pledged to "... close Guantanamo Bay the first day I am President."

He said he intended to make a sea change in our approach to foreign policy relying on negotiation, coalition, persuasion, economic pressure instead of war, death and destruction.

This man is real. He has specific proposals. He is clearly in the mainstream of American Progressiveism.

He might just be THE GUY!
