Wanted to share this memo from Robby Mook, our campaign manager:
To: Interested parties
From: Robby Mook, Campaign Manager
Re: Running
Date: September 16, 2008
Today, the campaign released a 30-second television advertisement entitled "Running" that highlights John Sununu's long record of voting with George Bush and against New Hampshire families.
John Sununu voted 90% of the time with George Bush and supported Bush's failed economic agenda, which has wrecked our economy. John Sununu followed George Bush and failed New Hampshire.
The television advertisement can be viewed here: http://www.jeanneshaheen.org/r...

Help us share this important message with voters by contributing today: https://jeanneshaheen.org/running
Governor Shaheen sent out the following Primary Day Challenge this morning:
Dear Jonathan,
Today is Primary Day in New Hampshire. I just got back from the Madbury Town Hall where I cast my vote for a new direction in Washington.
Click here for our Primary Day challenge
Tonight at midnight the primary season officially ends and the general election begins. And midnight tonight is the deadline for making a pre-general election contribution to my Senate campaign. We have just a few hours before this important door closes.
I am looking forward to the next 56 days of the general election. All across the state I keep hearing from the people of New Hampshire that they want a new direction in Washington.
To win in November voters need to hear our message of a new direction in Washington loud and clear. John Sununu has a tremendous war chest, and to win we need to compete on the phones, at people's doors, at rallies and events, and on television.
Our challenge to you before midnight:
1. CONTRIBUTE $10 to our campaign and show your support
2. SHARE with 10 of your friends, neighbors, and family why they need to contribute. Our online tool will allow you to email them with a personalized message.
Your contributions will help pay for lawn signs, radio and television ads, and door to door canvasses. All are vital to a victory and a new direction in 56 days.
If we want a new direction, we need a new Senator.
Jeanne Shaheen
Please accept Governor Shaheen's Primary Day Challenge before the midnight deadline.
(Great interview that should generate some national interest. Sen. Richard Durbin mentioned the importance of having Jeanne in the Senate this morning. Hamsters take nothing for granted right? - promoted by Mike Hoefer)

This morning, I had the opportunity to talk briefly with New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen about her U.S. Senate race this year, against incumbent Republican John Sununu.

(Normally I wouldn't be promoting a campaign petition, but I really believe this Enron loophole story is one that can resonate far and wide, and there's no way John E. can backtrack on his history with it. Watch that vid. - promoted by Dean Barker)
This afternoon the campaign went live with this petition calling on Sununu to stop protecting the Enron loophole.
These past few months, Governor Shaheen has been talking to people throughout NH - hearing their concerns and sharing her ideas for solving the problems facing middle class families.
To deal with rising gas prices, she has been calling on Washington to take action to crack down on excessive speculation, including closing the Enron loophole and requiring reporting of large trades of U.S. oil futures on the London exchange.
On the other end of the spectrum: As recently as June 10th, Sununu voted to protect the Enron loophole. This is not a first for him. He voted to create the loophole in 2000 and has voted to protect it six times since then.
Tell Sununu to stop protecting the Enron loophole.
Sign the petition here and be sure to pass it on.

PS. Please read Governor Shaheen's OP-ED in the Union Leader on the subject of oil price speculation and rising gas prices.
On the Road with 'Govy' is Molly Shaheen's new blog. Molly, Governor Shaheen's youngest daughter, recently graduated from University of San Diego and moved back to NH to work on the campaign.
She will be actively blogging and as the Governor's daughter she has a unique perspective on "the candidate" and the campaign.
From her first posting:
The last time my mother ran for office, I was 16 years old. I was living on the third floor of my parents' house, focused on important things like friends and entertainment, and had no interest in politics. What a difference six years make! Now, I'm living on the second floor of my parents' house, with a college degree, still pretty interested in friends and the entertainment industry, but I'm developing an interest in politics mainly because I know as a young person, like it or not, we control the future. I have seen a lot in my short 22 years of life and what I have seen lately I don't like. Our country is slipping and we need people to bring it back in the right direction. Politics can be dirty and frustrating, but like my family, I feel I have no choice but to get my hands dirty for a better and brighter tomorrow. This is what is engaging me in this campagin, leaving sunny San Diego was bitter sweet but this is where I need to be, so I hope that all of you will come on this journey with me.
Welcome Molly Shaheen to the blogosphere, your blogroll will be arriving in 6-8 weeks.

There was a tremendous turnout of supporters for Governor Shaheen's filing last Friday. The Capitol hallways shook with the cheering and applause. The rally outside was just as exciting.
Before the Governor's speech at the rally, Al Killeffer (an NHDP field organizer) lead the crowd in an original chant "I Dream of Jeannie." Ever wonder how you rhyme "phased withdrawal"? Watch and learn:
(Note: Jonathan is Jeanne Shaheen's Director of Online Communications. - promoted by Dean Barker)
In the ad Governor Shaheen lays out her plans for lowering gas prices and again shows her profound commitment to New Hampshire's middle class families.
"I think we need a Senator in New Hampshire who's gonna represent families in New Hampshire and not the oil companies." -Jeanne Shaheen
Coincidentally, Sununu did his share today to remind New Hampshire how good he is at not solving problems. To quote Alex Reese's "kickass" release:
..."John Sununu's priorities are clear: he's in D.C. working for hedge fund managers and multinational corporations instead of hardworking New Hampshire teachers, middle class families, and students struggling to pay for college," said Alex Reese, press secretary for the NHDP's Coordinated Campaign. "Even John Sununu admits that our economy is in recession, but he'd rather fight for billionaire hedge fund managers than middle class families...
Today, John Sununu voted against the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act, a proposal to extend tax breaks and incentives to a large section of the economy that is struggling with rising gas prices and a faltering economy...
Wanted to share the Governor's statement on the turn of events these past few days:
(Manchester, NH)-Former Governor and current candidate for US Senate Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement today in response to Senator Barack Obama securing the Democratic nomination for President:
"I would like to congratulate Senator Barack Obama for securing enough delegates to claim the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Senator Obama's messages of hope and change reflect the desires of millions of Americans who are looking for a new direction in Washington. I also want to congratulate Senator Clinton for running a strong and impressive campaign focused on the issues that matter to middle class families. Our party is stronger for her ideas, her conviction and her leadership.
"For too long, America's middle class families have been ignored in Washington. Senator Obama and I share the same commitment to bringing about the changes we need-making health care affordable for all Americans, bringing our troops home safely and responsibly from Iraq, providing economic relief for America's middle class families and creating a government that works for all Americans, not just the special interests."
Today we launched our end of the quarter fundraising campaign - Us vs. Exxon and Halliburton.
Since past email messages have made for lively discussion on BH and because we are very excited about the potential of this grassroots fundraising campaign, I thought I would share the text from Bill Hyer's email:
Subject: Exxon and Halliburton vs Jonathan
Dear Jonathan --
In politics, as in life, the people who support us say a lot about who we are and what we stand for.
We are proud of what our supporters say about Jeanne Shaheen and our campaign. Last quarter 6,500 individual contributors supported Jeanne's campaign and 4,000 were first time contributors. These individuals stood with Jeanne because they know she will tackle the challenges facing middle class Americans and bring change to business as usual in Washington DC.
John Sununu's donors tell a different story. He has taken more than $220,000 in campaign gifts from big oil and gas companies. In that time, average gas prices in New England have tripled - now at $4/gallon. And in that time, big oil companies' profits have skyrocketed.
John Sununu is counting on big oil in this campaign - we are counting on you. Individually we may not be able to compete with special interest checkbooks, but together we can.
Sununu took more than $220,000 from big oil. We are asking you to contribute $22. Together we can compete with Sununu and his big oil buddies. Click to contribute $22 today.
This fundraising quarter ends June 30th, so we have little time to make this happen. We need you to contribute today and ask your friends and family to do the same. Please forward this email to them or even better, start a personal fundraising page and use our easy outreach tools. Click to start your fundraising page.
If you get just 10 friends to give just $22 each you will have contributed $242 to Jeanne's campaign to pay for radio ads and lawn signs. If your ten friends do the same and get 10 friends to contribute - our campaign will have $2,442 to spend on setting up local offices and airing television ads. Click to start your fundraising page.
Together we can balance big oil's influence and send Jeanne Shaheen to the US Senate.
From Drew Cline's Blog on the UL: (emphasis my own)
At Manchester's Memorial Day parade yesterday, the sun was shining, the children were playing, the crowd was cheering, and the Democrats were out campaigning the Republicans.
My kids and I spent most of the afternoon downtown playing and then watching the parade. For a good three hours, I kept seeing people walk by with Jeanne Shaheen stickers on their shirts, handbags, hats, etc. I saw not a single John Sununu sticker. I also spotted a few Carol Shea-Porter stickers, and even saw Rep. Shea-Porter marching in the parade. I didn't spot a single Jeb Bradley or John Stephen sticker. I don't even know if they have stickers yet.
This might mean absolutely nothing. I wouldn't expect Bradley or Stephen to be working the parade crowd anyway, as it probably wouldn't be the best return on their investment of time and resources at this point in the campaign. But Sununu? I think I'd have had a couple of people there. If he did, I didn't see them.
A good number of the people with the Shaheen stickers are unlikely voters. Some of them could barely speak English. Some might have been homeless. But they helped get her name out, and that doesn't hurt.
(What do we all think? As a positive (re)introduction spot, I feel it hits all those notes it's meant to about reminding us what we had, and by his absence, what we can do without. - promoted by Dean Barker)
Today we went live with our first TV ad.
It is great introduction to the governor's tenure as governor and looks ahead to her vision and commitment as a US Senator. A Senator who puts New Hampshire first.
Today we posted a video of Governor Shaheen at the White Mountain Lumber Company. For those who don't know her yet - this video is a great introduction. It shows her concern for the challenges facing the middle class, her passion for creative solutions, and her commitment to service.
Please pass it on to those who need the introduction.
Thanks,

Today - I was following the sodahead poll we posted to our site yesterday on "the issue most challenging to the middle class." The poll was open to all sodahead users which has lead to some interesting comments. Check it out. We have had 75 people respond to the poll and 60 of those 75 commented, some very extensively. I am sure our campaign's pollsters would love that kind of response rate!
As part of Governor Shaheen's Middle Class Matters tour she met Jean Sanders in Plaistow. Jean was glad to blog for us today. Read Jean's posting.
The communal polling (yesterday's diary) and public blogging are part of our developing online strategy.
Let me know what you think,

I just uploaded a new widget to the Jeanne Shaheen for Senate website - www.jeanneshaheen.org - polling users on the issue most challenging to the middle class.
Today, Governor Shaheen began her Middle Class Matters tour. She is traveling Southern NH talking with voters about how we can help New Hampshire's working families and strengthen America's middle class. Tell us what you think is the most pressing issue by taking the poll.
Also, this is a new app., which we are trying, as we gear up for our upcoming website overhaul. Your thoughts on the polling widget itself are much appreciated.
