The Washington Times' Sean Lengell is apparently auditioning for The Onion:
Sen. John E. Sununu is in serious political trouble, and it's largely no fault of his own.
The first-term New Hampshire Republican is one of the most vulnerable sitting members of Congress facing re-election this year, a victim of surging anti-Republican and anti-Bush sentiments that have swept the Granite State in recent years.
Riiiight, Sprintin' John Sununu is a "victim" and his lack of support is "no fault of his own." Surely, Sununu's lack of support among Granite Staters cannot be attributed to his votes for an endless Iraq War, his decisive vote killing stem cell research, his opposition to cheaper prescription drugs, and his votes against increasing the minimum wage. Sununu is just a victim of circumstance.
"Senator Sununu has been an independent voice in the Senate and voted with New Hampshire 100 percent of the time," spokeswoman Julie Teer said in a prepared statement.
Votes with New Hampshire "100 percent of the time," huh? Why do these Republican hacks make it so easy? Quick note to Julie Teer: no, Sununu does not vote with New Hampshire "100 percent of the time."
Some very quick examples after about eight seconds of research:
New Hampshire wants us out of Iraq. Sununu votes to keep us endlessly in Iraq.
New Hampshire overwhelmingly supports stem cell research. Sununu was a decisive vote killing stem cell research.
This really isn't difficult. There's a reason Sununu is compared to ousted conservative former Senator Rick Santorum when discussing how out-of-step right-wing Senators are with their moderate home states.
What's your favorite example of Sununu being out-of-step with mainstream New Hampshire voters? Share in the comments.
A conservative group supporting Sprintin' John Sununu may be violating their tax-exempt status (and, therefore, violating the law) by airing attack ads against popular Democratic former Governor Jeanne Shaheen.
The New Hampshire Democratic Party accused a national conservative business group of illegally acting, on Republican Sen. John E. Sununu's behalf, in its use of radio ads to attack Democratic candidate Jeanne Shaheen.
The party released its complaint Monday, calling on the Federal Elections Commission to conclude that Americans for Job Security violated the group's tax-exempt status by engaging in electioneering rather than issue advocacy with the anti-Shaheen ads.
Wow, Republicans acting illegally to undermine Shaheen's Senate bid - where have I heard that before?
