Paul Hodes vs. Andrea Mitchell; MSNBC; Monday October 18

by: TimothyHorrigan

On Monday afternoon, Andrea Mitchell offered Paul Hodes four minutes of her time on her show "Andrea Mitchell Reports".  And he took advantage of it.

TimothyHorrigan :: Paul Hodes vs. Andrea Mitchell; MSNBC; Monday October 18
MSNBC is supposedly the liberal equivalent to FoxNews.  And I am sure that any FoxNews viewers who pressed the wrong button on their remotes were appalled by some of the liberal bias shown by Andrea Mitchell.  For starters, she let Hodes have the whole segment to himself, without a conservative to interrupt him.  That's liberal bias right there!  Mitchell doesn't interrupt him either: she let him talk.  During the cutaway shots she is just nodding politely and listening respectfully: she isn't sighing or rolling her eyes.

But even the relatively liberal cable network proved today to be only relatively liberal.  Mitchell showed what in my eyes was a severe rightwing bias several times.  Firstly. she couldn't even be bothered to get his voting record right: she accused him of voting for TARP when he voted against it.  She mockingly described his voting record as a "trifecta" (making sure to substitute Cap & Trade for TARP when she corrected her error.)  She simply could not be bothered to take Hodes seriously.

She credited Sarah Palin's endorsement for Kelly Ayotte's victory in the Republican Primary when in fact Palin's endorsement made no difference.  The "Mama Grizzly's" endorsement actually hurt Ayotte a little. (It is significant that Ayotte had to go to Washington, DC to kiss Palin's ring.  Palin never visited NH before the 2008 General Election and has not been back since, even though we have the First in the Nation Presidential Primary.  She can't even be bothered to write checks to Republican candidates, even though she is raising lots of money.)

Mitchell also insisted on asking Hodes about Nancy Pelosi's popularity when no one but the Republican establishment cares one cares one way or the other about Nancy Pelosi.

what's that building in the backgound? (0.00 / 0)
What's that building in the background behind Hodes during his talking head shots? It seems to me that if you wanted to say "Manchester" you would place him in front of the mills.  (The building looks like the old state hospital in Concord to me, but I am unsure of that...)

Thanks for all the fish

Ah, yes, loaded questions. (0.00 / 0)
On the whole, I think TARP turned out better than expected.  Not because it "saved" Wall Street, but because it showed that the collapse was a put-up job.  It was supposed to be the October Surprise, but the timing was off.  The collapse and take-over of Lehman was also timed badly.  That Lehman was "allowed" to fail so Dubya's cousin George H. Walker IV could pick up the pieces on the cheap still doesn't strike me as a happenstance.
