Has Frank Guinta had a change of heart about privatizing Social Security? Or is he lying about his intentions? Voters deserve an answer.

I believe we need a solution to preserve Social Security which does not privatize the system, does not raise taxes, and does not cut existing benefits.

Government's the problem here, ladies and gentlemen. When Social Security was created, you didn't have the wealth of private sector solutions for lifetime savings that you have today. We have to honor the obligations that have been made to those who are reliant on the federal government - older generations. But future generations should seek different private sector solutions and have personal responsibility start to lead the way. My kids are 6 and 5. They shouldn't know what Social Security is!

When Social Security was created, you didn't have the wealth of private sector solutions for lifetime savings that you have today.

You certainly DID have those private-market investment choices in the years leading up to the Great Depression.

I believe it was Joe Kennedy (the patriarch) who said about the 1920s: "I knew it was time to get out of the market when my cabdrivers started giving me stock tips."

He says he does not want to cut "existing benefits". if you are  collecting social security today, your benefits won't be cut. Everyone else, look out. It is code for raising the age of retirement and means testing.

That language also covers freezing current benefit checks at today's levels - even when inflation should drive them up.

He is declaring open season on the theft of all the money you and I and everyone else not currently collecting have contributed to the system for decades.

We put the money in from our paychecks, and we won't get it back on the return end.

This is robbery with nice words.

GOPer has Guinta beat on this in terms of either sheer ignorance or duplicity:

I have argued for allowing newcomers to the Social Security system to have the option of private accounts. I have not argued for privatizing the Social Security system.

Come to think of it, this is like the CliffsNotes of Guinta's untenable "position" on Social Security.
