House Leadership Shuts the Door on Young Voters

by: Zandra Rice Hawkins

Thu Feb 24, 2011 at 17:43:51 PM EST

What do you think NH's House Leadership would do if they happened to pass by a large group of young adults in New Hampshire feeling completely disenfranchised by the proposed trampling of their rights?

Apparently, ignore them and close the door on their active participation in our state:

Follow the live blog of HB 176.

Mixed up which video and title went together when uploading - had to make a quick switch. :)

The future leaders of New Hampshire (4.00 / 2)
These young citizens of New Hampshire make this old man proud to be from New Hampshire.

"THE WELFARE OF EACH OF US IS DEPENDENT FUNDAMENTALLY ON THE WELFARE OF ALL OF US." Teddy Roosevelt

I'm so glad to see the chant "Kill the Bill" being taken from the Tea Party (4.00 / 1)
First in Wisconsin by teachers, firefighters, nurses, and other public workers,

and now by students in New Hampshire.

"We now know that government by organized money is just as dangerous as government by organized mob." - FDR

It is not just young voters... (4.00 / 2)
We keep thinking that this bill affects undergraduates, but in fact, as far as I can tell, it affects any student, graduate student, professional degree student, even part-time students. IF you move to a town in NH for the purpose of enrolling in an institution of higher education, you cannot vote at your new home, you must vote at your previous home.

If a town/city hopes that graduate students will stay after graduation, better treat the graduate students as full citizens immediately.  It is insulting to be told "you can't vote here".

Excellent point (0.00 / 0)
and there were several non-traditional students who testified to that reality during the hearing.
