by: Mike Hoefer

Tue Sep 27, 2011 at 10:17:08 AM EDT

We will run our first "Post Lynch" Straw Poll this Thursday.

Based on performance in previous polls we will include:

 * Mark Connolly
 * Jackie Cilley
 * Maggie Hassan
 * Steve Marchand
 * Gary Hirshberg

We will also include any other new names nominated in the comments and uprated by at least 2 additional people.

Note: If you would like to vote in the poll on Thursday but do not yet have a BlueHampshire username/password please register now so you are not blocked by the waiting period for new users to comment (a policy that helps us fight spammy trolls).

Question (0.00 / 0)
Is there a synopsis of where these candidates stand on the issues?  I know, I know, digging a little too deep for a site-only straw poll, but I'd like to know.

"We start working to beat these guys right now." -Jed Bartlet

Not that I know of (4.00 / 1)
At this point, we are in the "Invisible Primary" stage, no one is officially a candidate yet (that I know of) so for now you are going to have to rely on what you know or have heard about the "Candidates."

There are a number of events that happening around the state and with Gov. Lynch's recent announcement you know that the "Candidates" will be working events such as the Cheshire Dems Spaghetti Dinner on October 15th pretty hard. These events are one of the best ways to get to know folks and ask your questions directly.

I will make sure to include "Undecided" as an option as well. The more ppl in this category the more the "Candidates" will need to work to get their message out.

Adding, All of the "Non-Candidates" are welcome to post here at BH. Posts under your name, with the good intentions of following-up to questions that may be posted in the thread, will be promoted to the Frontpage.

Let's not forget the Spaghetti Tree (4.00 / 3)

Can someone explain to me why, if they love the Constitution so much, the right-wingers keep introducing amendments to change it?

[ Parent ]
Tom Ferrini? (0.00 / 0)
This is a good list already, but another name I've heard mentioned is that of outgoing Portsmouth Mayor Tom Ferrini.

I know almost nothing about Mayor Ferrini--and still not much about several of the other candidates on the list, including another former Portsmouth mayor--but I'm curious to know more.  I don't think any previous position (or lack thereof) determines whether someone would make a good governor or not, but I will admit that the idea of a mayor of one of the state's more prominent cities running for governor has the appeal of possibly highlighting economic development, quality of life, and infrastructure issues that are most acute in urban areas.  Obviously people like Frank Guita prove that such a mayor would have to come from a progressive background.

Sadly, I have been a voter in Massachusetts since 2009, so I will not be voting in the poll or the actual election.  I missed voting in New Hampshire in 2010, but I'll especially miss being able to vote in a state primary with as many appealing candidates as seen in this list.

Ferrini has ruled out a NH-Gov bid. (0.00 / 0)

Question for pollster (4.00 / 2)
Mike, will you tell us how many people join between now and when the poll ends?

it would be interesting to see if they are consistent.

I'm happy with the list of candidates.... (4.00 / 2)
But I have made a personal commitment to always, at all times, to "nominate" Jim Splaine :-)

Another name besides those on the list (4.00 / 2)
and besides Mayor Ferrini that has been mentioned is US Attorney John Kacavas.

Of course, someone in his position would have nothing or next to nothing to link to to show positions or interest, but the name has been tossed out there.

I hope they all run!

BH Straw Polls (0.00 / 0)
These have become less useful than they once were. After some recent ones, I've found myself momentarily puzzled by the idea that candidates with no vocal support on the site get more votes than there are frequent hamsters.

That is, unless many of BH's lurkers are of one mind and not telling us.

after the Primary (4.00 / 1)
it's a race...now it's silly season

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Who can win? (4.00 / 1)
I believe it is extremely important we nominate a candidate that can win, given the current climate. We need a continued ability to veto the crazy. While I'd like to think we can win back both the House and the Senate, which is possible, maintaining the Governorship is a more likely scenario.

Our party should focus on a non-politician / successful NH business owner. I agree there are many more-than-qualified persons to nominate who don't fit in that box but, if the Dems run a 'job-creator,' we will capture the independents, and take away from the GOP what I expect to be a 'job-creating' theme, and the ability of the crazies to attack our candidate for being void of business sense and/or career bureaucrats.

We can quibble on certain stances, sure, but let's not lose sight of what can happen if we nominate a non-electable candidate.

Aaron / Deering. Kuster 2012: http://www.kusterforcongress.com/

Absolutely right! (0.00 / 0)
Though I believe we have a very good chance of taking back the House, more so than the Senate (possibly).

The Governor's race will be the key challenge.  By that time the state will have had a (excellent) Democratic governor for 8 years.  One thing we have to take into account is, what I call, "party fatigue."

And not to put too fine a point on an already sailed ship; but, the candidate you described IS John Lynch.  As I said though, that ship has sailed.

I think the NH electorate, while it does have it's share of crazies still out there, are on to the game of the Tea Party, Libertarians and Free Staters.  2012 could be just as big for us, as 2010 for them.

No matter who our nominee is it will be our job to continue to show the citizens of NH how they got into this worse mess and who put them there.  We have plenty of video and roll call votes to keep their heads spinning.  We take the fight to the incumbents and we don't let them "punt".

Of course.... (4.00 / 1)
...we could choose a candidate who is correct on gambling, the war on drugs, medical cannabis, police brutality, and parental notification....and actually give many libertarians and free staters a clear choice other than the GOP, and break the theocrat/teaparty/libertarian alliance.

Winning elections is about identifying your natural allies, articulating your message in a way that secures them, and getting them to the polls.  Given the crop of potential GOP andidates, this is not an altogether impractical or impossible task.

Never worked before (0.00 / 0)
Free Staters have never made any significant push on any issue other than no-taxes-no-way. There may be exceptions here or there, but by and large they're a bunch of spoiled brats with delusions of self-sufficiency if they just didn't have to pay any taxes.

I agree with this statement:
