Mass. Invasion - Stopped.

by: Dean Barker

Sun May 31, 2009 at 22:41:32 PM EDT

Mittens on Winnipesauke, alack, still destined to be, officially, a vacation home only:
"No, my residence is still in Massachusetts. That is my home. That's where I vote. And I'm going to continue to be a Massachusetts resident - I can't tell you how many years that's the case - but for the indefinite future," Romney told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace.
Deep Thought: How on earth will the non-fringe wing of the NHGOP find its way back to the fore and to winning elections again when the next primary means a steady diet of Sanfords, Barbours, Perrys, Huckleberrys, and Palins coming to town? And how will Mittens navigate those choppy waters?

This is an interesting question (0.00 / 0)
For as long as I can remember, there have been moderate or mainstream conservative candidates in the Republican field. There were always guys like George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, Dick Lugar, Pete DuPont, Jack Kemp, and John McCain on the scene. While some of these guys are very conservative, they are all reasonable, thoughtful, and generally decent public servants.

Now we have a collection of candidates who are members of the ideological fringe, ethically challenged, blatantly incompetent, or, in some cases, all three.

America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. -Harry Truman

I feel like NH Rs already tried - and failed - last time. (4.00 / 1)
Last primary, they pulled McCain out of near defeat and pulled him up again and helped launched him as the nominee.

To me, this was NH Republicans' way of saying, I'll take the less crazy one, please.

(of course, this is before McCain became the nominee and then proceeded to outdo everyone else's Teh Crazy, and then added Palin as a cherry on top to Teh Crazy.)

So, NH Republicans tried already, and failed. And now they are facing down a slate of R candidates in '12 that make the '08 ones look like angels.

In that light I would have to think Romney would be the easiest choice for them, by a mile.

Absent someone like Tom Ridge or Olympia Snowe surprising us... (0.00 / 0)
you're probably right

This is why the GOP (4.00 / 1)
will want to kill the New Hampshire primary.

Why let any New England state be the first filter on your nominees?
