The Long Alaskan Nightmare is Over

by: Dean Barker

Fri Jul 03, 2009 at 15:34:23 PM EDT

Sarah Palin resigning in a few weeks.  No, really.

Of course, this probably marks the beginning of the Long New Hampshire Nightmare of her primary visits. Jennifer Donahue will be so pleased.

More:  A few random thoughts (below the fold):

Dean Barker :: The Long Alaskan Nightmare is Over

* Will Mark Sanford leave office before Sarah Palin? It's a race!

* How insulting to the Alaskans who voted for Palin that she is giving up on running the state they elected her to run because of Mean Bloggers, et cetera?

* How stoopid does Sarah Palin think the American people are to "quit" politics, dramatically and on the Friday of a major American holiday, when everyone will gather together and talk about her?

* I've said this a million times before, but: can you believe the utter recklessness of John McCain, putting her one heartbeat away from the presidency?

* Jennifer Donahue, less than a year ago:

Either Central Casting and Candid Camera have teamed up to trick cable television, or this is the best real choice and the best hidden secret the republicans have made in decades.

* Sometimes I marvel at the almost ten-point margin Obama got in the only left-leaning former red state McCain had a shot in.  After all, it was New Hampshire that rescued his candidacy, and here that he trounced Bush in 2000. And then I remember: oh yeah, Palin was on the ticket.  Granite Staters, trained from the POTUS primary, can smell a fake from a mile away. Thanks Sarah!

And: Fred Malek is advising Sarah?  Fred Malek???  CREEPY!

Thank you, John McCain (4.00 / 7)
If she ran in 2012 with a clean slate, she'd be a much stronger candidate.

By the way (4.00 / 2)
I can't wait to hear why.

Here is what she said: (4.00 / 2)

Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and all of her cabinet. She said that recent incidents brought up by national media and the spate of ethics complaints have been taking away from her mission to serve Alaska.

So whatever it is that is making her resign, it's probably not because of recent national media incidents or ethics violations.

I read recently that God had a coversation with Joe the Plumber and told him he should not run for political office. Maybe God had a chat with Sarah-of-the-North, too. He's pretty chatty, I understand.

Didn't you hear? (0.00 / 0)
Sarah thinks she is God. She wrote an email about some recent joke someone made about her, and signed it 'Trig's Creator' at the bottom, having written the whole thing in deific person.

IT for John Lynch '04 and NHDP '08 - I'm liking my track record so far!

[ Parent ]
Is Sarah the weirdo who... (4.00 / 6)
... waived Trig by his arms over the balcony railing of her 10th floor hotel room to show him off to her fans down on the street?

Or was she the one who used Trig as a morality prop in a political melodrama, carting him around the country to show him off to her fans at campaign stops?

I get my weirdos confused sometimes.

Sarah (0.00 / 0)
suppose there is a story lurking???

Maybe she just needed time off to go hiking the Appalachian Trail? (4.00 / 4)
That's very popular among GOP govs this time of year, I understand.

sex tape! (0.00 / 0)
Oh lawdy, let there be a sex tape, or pictures - something that will ensure we never hear from her again. Unless we rent porn flicks.

[ Parent ]
I have to admit (0.00 / 0)
That this definitely is not politics as usual or Washington-style.  Or, y'know, making-any-sense-at-all style.  Whether she's getting a jump-start on the 2012 campaign or getting out this far ahead of a scandal.

I would not think twice about voting for Tina Fey for President over Sarah Palin. (4.00 / 2)
Seriously.

Her past is not dead. It is not even past. (4.00 / 1)
Simple psychodrama:

Michael Jackson has commanded attention for a full week and will do so indefinitely. The attention-deprived Sarah threw a tantrum.

Is she out of politics? Only if she finds another source of headline coverage.

Obligatory (0.00 / 0)
Play her off, keyboard cat!

OMG (4.00 / 4)
Really, OMG:

I'm pretty good at not rubbernecking at accidents, but I lost this battle.

Holy **** (4.00 / 4)
No honest person could believe that this person is intellectually capable of holding public office (much less serve as President of the United States).  It's not about her politics.  She is, quite simply, a dolt of the first degree.

And any Republican who defends her is a massive tool.

[ Parent ]
Seriously, I think that (4.00 / 1)
ten point Obama margin here had something to do with this.

[ Parent ]
First LOL, Thanks DD! (0.00 / 0)
You are so right!
What does it say about the idea of one nation,
that Moose Barbie should have such vast appeal?

Oh sorry, my misunderstanding, it's all that mean media.

No'm Sayn?

[ Parent ]
what you are seeing is (4.00 / 1)
Palin minus Steve Schmidt.

Schmidt did a lot of things wrong in '08, but I can't help but admire the fact he did that campaign while working with raw material like this. It's really striking what Palin is without the national campaign apparatus to minimize the amount of time she looks like an idiot.

What was it he kept saying during the AIP incident? "Just say it's ridiculous. Todd loves America."

He is watching this right now, I am sure, either crying or laughing.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Parasailing? (4.00 / 4)
One is an exciting, dangerous adventure that leaves someone crashing down into a broken heap.

The other is just a sport.

I See A Trend Here... (4.00 / 1)
...Judd Gregg, John E. Sununu, Sarah Palin...

This is rominous.

but what we in NH are wondering... (4.00 / 2)
Is Kelly Ayotte running for President? :-)

David Waldman, aka Kagro X (4.00 / 1)
It's truly been an amazing few weeks for the America, as we found out that GOP governors celebrate Father's Day with adultery, and July 4th by resigning from office.

I can't let this thread pass without reminding bringing it up, (4.00 / 2)
This person, while running for Vice President of the United States, traveled to the coast of New Hampshire, stood with her back to the Atlantic Ocean, and proclaimed that it was wonderful to be in "the great northwest".

Well, two years ago, live and in front of a group of schoolchildren, Senator Franken drew freehand an impressively precise map of the contiguous United States, from memory, in under five minutes.  I'd like to see Governor Palin point to New Hampshire on that map.

Franken draws the USA:

Going back to cleaning the dryer vent, more interesting.

palin could make a fortune... (0.00 / 0)
...on the republican rubber chicken circuit, or at either fox or excellence in broadcasting...and she could be just as "fact-challenged" as bouncy-bouncy or o'reilly with nobody caring and no eothics investigations to gum up the works.

then in 2011 she "hears the voice of the people" and goes on a few donor-funded campaign trips--sorry, shopping trips--and then loses in 2012, playing the "victim of the godless liberals" character all the while.

i should have added... (4.00 / 1)
...that the biggest loser in all of this is probably ann coulter.

--we are making enemies faster than we can kill them

[ Parent ]
Why? (0.00 / 0)
Because this gives Fox another go-to demi-hottie to bring on every couple of days?

Ann is still the BLONDE go-to demi-hottie, Sarah can't take that away from her. And Fox does prefer its eye candy to be blond.

[ Parent ]
Hottie? (0.00 / 0)

If that harpy is a hottie of any stripe, please shoot me now.

[ Parent ]
FWIW, she's not my cup of tea either... (0.00 / 0)
but for some, she is the whole package- the blond locks, the (relative) youth, the foul mouth, the deadened soul, the nasty-mindedness. A pin-up girl for the far right!

and raise you...

it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and "go with the flow". Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".

Sarah, oh Sarah, we hardly knew ye!  You will be missd.

Come to think of it... (4.00 / 1)
True story: on Friday, I opened my back door and saw a moose in my field, clear as day.

It was a sign.

And the moose did wear lipstick and wink, (4.00 / 7)
And Dean was sore afraid.

And it did open its mouth as if to speak, and sounds like unto a human voice did proceed therefrom, yet in them was nor sense nor reason.

And Dean spoke, saying, Surely thy fifteen minutes go swiftly.

Palin may be trying to avoid potential political scandal (0.00 / 0)

There is growing speculation that Palin abruptly resigned to avoid a potential scandal. The Daily Beast's Max Blumenthal ruffled some feathers with this recent piece.

Now Huffington Post reports that Palin maybe exploring legal options against an Alaskan blogger for reporting that she's facing embezzlement charges   Check it out.

Anyone who tells the Alaskan public in a press conference to "trust her in her decision" indicates to me something else is behind her decision-making she does not want revealed.  At least IMO. If nothing was wrong, she wouldn't need to make public statements like that.

Shannon reported a rumor. (4.00 / 1)
The blogger only reported the rumor of charges against Sarah in connection with Housegate, and I first heard the same last October. Shannon Moore already responded on Alaskan radio last night, but now has a press conference scheduled for 6 PM our time.

[ Parent ]
Did you read Max Blumethal's story? (0.00 / 0)

I think there's more to the story we're not hearing.

[ Parent ]
Her lawyer cites the Alaska Constitution on Freedom of Speech (4.00 / 1)
That document doesn't provide as much of it. And her lawyer seems to think that it somehow trumps the federally guaranteed right.

Why does Todd want to secede when his wife doesn't think the US Constitution applies to her anyhow?

[ Parent ]
According to Max Bluementhal... (0.00 / 0)

"Palin is threatening to sue anyone who syndicates the story he and Shannyn Moore first reported (Shannyn is singled out in the legal threat)."

What is Palin going out of her way to do this? What will she gain by going after Blumenthal and Moore? One is an independent journalist, the other is a blogger.

Let's see where this goes.

If it isn't this (0.00 / 0)
I'm sure there's something else involving hubris/stoopidity at some Sanfordesque level.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Oops. (4.00 / 1)
That was meant in reply to NH Ex-pat, sorry. Tired from cleaning the dryer vent.
