Kelly Ayotte, Senate Candidate (R-DC Lobbyists)

by: Dean Barker

Wed Sep 09, 2009 at 16:49:15 PM EDT

It's profitable to go to the Village and not be endorsed by Big John Cornyn and the NRSC!
As was first reported on this site, Ayotte will attend a fund-raiser at the National Republican Senatorial Committee on Sept. 22. Now it is learned she will attend two other fund-raisers that day. One is a lunch at Charlie Palmers Steak House and and the other is hosted by Rick Murphy, a lobbyist and former Judd Gregg staffer.
And no, Virtual NHGOP Chair Judd Gregg isn't the puppetmaster behind the Kelly Ayotte campaign at all. Not a bit.

At the beginning, I figured the folks at the Grok were just upset that Ayotte wasn't to the right enough for their tastes.  But this is becoming ridiculous.  The story now is not whether Ayotte is conservative enough for New Hampshire Republicans.  It's whether there's any real interest at Team Ayotte in getting New Hampshire Republicans on board or not, given the presumptive nominee stance the national GOP has taken on her.

This continuing storyline gives Ovide Lamontagne a real opening.  And Charlie Bass, too, if he wanted it.

Dean, did you say "lobbyists?!?" ........ (0.00 / 0)
.... hopefully not the same ones that just sunk the political career of family values California Assemblyman Michael Duvall.

I must confess, though: I was stunned that he would resign so soon. Surely, I felt, the old tried-and-true formula would be brought out:

(a)  Declare you have discovered Jesus.

(b)  Blame the women; get their employers to fire them in shame.

(c)  Have the party leaders observe, "Well, at least he isn't gay".

(d)  And as per Lindsey Graham, "If he can patch things up with his wife" (a la Mark Sanford) "then the voters should have a chance to decide, not the liberal media".

But lo-and-behold, I was wrong: he has resigned. I'm guessing the fact that the lobbyist had business before the committee probably was the linchpin.

"We should pay attention to that man behind the curtain."

Kind of a hatchet job (4.00 / 1)
I don't like it when reporters make someone ignoring them part of the story. "Look, he won't talk to us!" Well, yes, because he's rational. The act is bad enough without piling on like that.

Examiner.com is not real journalism, nor is it even professional writers. (0.00 / 0)
Let's not cite it like it is.  At least Wikipedia has an infinite number of nitpickers to correct things.

What will NH do? (4.00 / 1)
The efforts of the NRSC to handpick the next senator from New Hampshire makes me wonder if they think that Kelly Ayotte will be more malleable than Ovide Lamontagne? She has been a bit of a shapeshifter, hasn't she, depending on whether she was working for Craig Benson or John Lynch. Now that she is looking to get the help of the US Senate Republican establishment, she is a riproaring rightwinger trying to get the support of people like Cornyn, who is very much to the right.

Ovide need only wait - (4.00 / 2)
Sure, Gregg is her single constituency - and he's a powerful Washington figure.

But Ovide need only wait for AWOL Judd to get tired or bored.
