Deep Thought: One Hundred Years of Bass

by: Dean Barker

Wed Sep 23, 2009 at 22:02:59 PM EDT

So there's a Draft BassMaster for Gov effort underfoot.

Let's see: if Charlie went for it, and won, he'd be the Granite State's chief executive starting in 2011.

Funny that.  His grandfather Robert had that title one hundred years ago, in 1911.

Governor Bass was a one-termer, after which was ushered in an extremely rare early period of Democratic Governor and Congress.

Our own Democratically controlled executive and legislative branch also was born at the same time as the defeat of another Bass in 2006.

The one was influenced by a Bass straying too far from the GOP in his support of TR.  The other was influenced by a Bass clinging too tightly to the GOP in his support of W.

Since Republicans don't understand irony, it's perhaps (0.00 / 0)
not fair to use the "master" tag.

Robert Perkins Bass (4.00 / 2)
Gov. Bass was one of the great progressives of the early twentieth century.  The only things he shares with his grandson are his last name and nominal party allegiance.
