The depressing consequences of a citizenry tuned into hate radio and FOX News, on display at a town hall:
We're a little more aware of our constituents than you might think," [Carol Shea-Porter] said, reading from a list of leading medical organizations (including the American Association of Retired Persons, the American Medical Association, the Alzheimer's Foundation, and the American Association of Pediatricians) that supported the bill.
"The list goes on and on," she said amid a rising chorus of laughter and derisive comments from the audience.
Here's part of the New Hampshire Hospital Association's statement after the health care reform vote:
For more than a year, the New Hampshire Hospital Association has been engaged in the effort to reform health care in America. We all know the challenges: skyrocketing insurance premiums, rising costs and too many people without coverage. That's why hospitals have pushed for meaningful reform that is comprehensive and balanced and financed as a shared responsibility across all stakeholders. Last night's vote is a step toward that goal.
While the health reform legislation passed by the House of Representatives is not perfect, NHHA supports expanding coverage to 32 million Americans and implementing health insurance reforms.
Here's a list of the 32 hospitals in New Hampshire that make up the membership in the New Hampshire Hospital Association. Did you even know there are at least 32 hospitals in this small state? I had no idea.
Finally, here are some medical and health organizations that support the health care law (with many more at this link):
American Medical Association, AARP, Catholic Health Association, Main Street Alliance, Federation of American Hospitals, National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, American College of Physicians, National Hispanic Medical Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, American Diabetes Association, American Nurses Association, Families USA, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
But really, none of this matters in the face of right-wing media misinformation, and the resulting inoculation to fact.
