Warner's Maxine Kumin:
Bring me your fallen fledgling, your bummer lamb,
lead the abused, the starvelings, into my barn.
Advise the hunted deer to leap into my corn.

Manchester Stomping on Free Speech? (4.00 / 3)
Based on a story in today's UL, it looks like the Manchester School District has turned its attention away from such weighty matters as whether teachers can wear toe revealing footwear to prohibiting teachers from exercisng their First Amendment rights.

According to the story, ".. staff should not use the Internet to say anything disparaging about students, staff or the district."

http://www.unionleader.com/art...

Hopefully staff is professional enough not to say disparaging things about specific students, or their colleagues, on Facebook or a blog. However, the First Amendment gives staff the absolute right to use the internet to say things like, "I wish the district was as focused on classroom performance as it is on stupid policies like whether teachers can wear sandals to work".

Will it violate the policy to post a comment at the UL web site criticizing the district, but not violate the policy if you write a letter to the editor? Or is it okay to physically mail a letter, but not okay to send it electronically? Can a staffer e mail a spouse from a blackberry and say, "you won't believe the stupid meeting I had to sit through at school today"?

In favor: Shaheen, Hodes, Shea-Porter. Opposed: Gregg (4.00 / 2)
700 teachers in New Hampshire will not lose their jobs because of a bill signed by President Obama yesterday.

Senator Shaheen and Reps. Hodes and Shea-Porter voted for that bill. Senator Gregg didn't.

Do Republican candidates for federal office think New Hampshire would be better off with seven hundred fewer teachers? Someone should ask them.

The Dumbest Campaign Ad in History (4.00 / 1)
Ladies and gentlemen, Dan Quayle's moronic son

Ben Quayle says he gonna knock the HELL out of DC (4.00 / 1)
Although when he says he's going to knock the hell out of this place... you BELIEVE him... well actually you don't believe him at all.  He has about as much personality as a zucchini.  He makes his dad look like Bill Clinton in comparison.
