Foreign Born Mogul Working to Influence NH Elections

by: Dean Barker

Fri Oct 01, 2010 at 20:15:48 PM EDT

Right wing propangandist Rupert Murdoch, owner of News Corp, the parent company of FAUX News, is monkeying with our elections here in New Hampshire.

Recently, News Corp made a one million dollar donation to the Republican Governor's Association.

The RGA, in turn, just spent $370,000 for a week's ad buy trashing our governor.

News Corp also gave one million to the US Chamber of Commerce.

The US Chamber of Commerce, after dropping millions to try to defeat Jeanne Shaheen, was more recently spotted in New Hampshire spending 200,000 dollars trashing our Senate nominee Paul Hodes.

Why are we letting out of state billionaires use the TeeVee to try to swing our elections here in New Hampshire?  No self-respecting Granite Stater should put up with that.

Being antagonistic gets attention. And if there's one thing (0.00 / 0)
the media are after, it's attention.
So, that's the answer to your question about why Murdoch is priming the pump by pouring money into a growth industry -- the selling of politicians to an unsuspecting public.
There's a long-held assumption that advertising produces and spurs sales.  So, now that candidates for public office are suddenly a hot commodity, advertising is being used to promote the brands.  You could say that the effort to make political candidates a household word is in response to the fact that advertising household products has obviously failed to keep the economy humming along.

Somehow, the idea, that perhaps the economy crashed because most of what households bought was junk and ready for the dump even before it came out of the box, doesn't seem to have registered yet.  So, the advertising of political flakes and fakes goes on apace.  The TP candidates resemble nothing so much as "new and improved" box of cereal from which all the nutrients have been removed.  We're into "all image, no content" country.

What's the point of the "politics of personal destruction"?  If you imagine reality as a see-saw, then the destruction of one assures the other wins.  It's the Tonya Harding version of competition.
