Jackie Endorsed by IBEW Local 2320!

by: Dean Barker

Mon May 07, 2012 at 20:35:02 PM EDT

Today we are pleased to announce an endorsement of Jackie Cilley for governor of New Hampshire by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 2320. The press release is below.

Jackie Cilley thanks the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers,
Local 2320 for their endorsement

BARRINGTON - "I am tremendously excited by the endorsement of IBEW 2320," says Cilley.  "I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the fine men and women who are members of Local 2320 and seeing them at work. These are the people who work every day to ensure that our businesses and families can pick up the phones and communicate with one another."

"As New Hampshire's next Governor," Cilley went on to say, "my administration will work closely with the workers of New Hampshire to ensure that we have the best educated workforce in the country and a workforce that will be a strong attractor for business that will grow a vibrant economy during this century."

"As Senator, she was an asset to our organization during a very challenging time of uncertainty as we negotiated through the muddy waters of sales and acquisitions with regulatory implications that not only had an impact on our workers but on every citizen in the great state of NH," said 2320 Business Manager Glenn Brackett in a statement statement to the campaign, adding "Over her years in the NH Senate, she has earned our respect and admiration. So, it is with pride that the members of the IBEW 2320 endorse Jackie Cilley to be our next Governor."

ABOUT JACKIE: Jackie Cilley, who served in both New Hampshire's House and Senate representing Barrington, built a successful business and taught more than 2500 New Hampshire students over her 20 years as a highly respected business professor with UNH's Whittemore School for Business and Economics. A Berlin native, Sen. Cilley earned a BA in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA from the Whittemore School.  Jackie and her husband Bruce have lived in Barrington for more than 20 years.  They have five sons, 12 grandchildren, and two dogs.

Jackie Was At A Portsmouth LGBT Discussion Tonight... (0.00 / 0)
...and spoke of the need to continue the fight on equality for all of our citizens.

I have yet to make a personal choice between Jackie or Maggie -- both are very good people who would be excellent choices.  But if Jackie were to be our Democreatic Nominee, I have no doubt she'd bring the fight to the Republicans in November and be an excellent governor -- as Maggie would be.

It's already shaping up as an interesting primary campaign between two good, passionate Democratic Party leaders.  That means all citizens of New Hampshire benefit.

Jon, when I co-founded this site nearly six years ago, (3.80 / 5)
spending every available minute of spare time I had building up its audience and influence, the goal was to provide a way for left-leaning folks like you and thousands of others, for free, to get their messages out to New Hampshire in a way that could bypass the traditional media gate-keeping.

When I see worthy posts like One week left to apply for Nat Bresler summer internship program inhabit the front page, it makes me proud to know I have succeeded in that goal.

Lose-lose comment threads such as existed online long before I created BH were never a goal of mine.

I am proud to be helping Jackie, whose support for and understanding of working class folks is a major reason why. I'm equally committed to electing a Democrat in the fall, and I invite everyone to share this goal.

Dean -- Yours Was An Inspiration... (4.00 / 1)
...and has helped reach your goal in so many ways real and perceived.

Fact is, we would not have accomplished New Hampshire's marriage equality in 2009 without BlueHampsire.com. While some of the powers-who-be and organizations wanted to wait a couple of years to try, folks on www.BlueHampshire.com were a bit more impatient.

I also think this vehicle -- that's what it is -- has given strong voice to the causes of medical marijuana, which like gay marriage is an issue that the Democratic Party had to play catch-up to, and which more mainstream media would just ignore until discussion and support reaches critical mass.

www.BlueHampshire.com allows those of us who might not hold political office or be in the heirachy of a political party a way to force the discussion -- perhaps on significant tax reform this year and next.  It's kind of hard to ignore voices that have a forum.  And as General George Patton said, "It's hard to beat someone who just won't give up."

Thank you Jim. (4.00 / 2)
You are the founding father of marriage equality in New Hampshire, and in office or out, you continue to lead the way for New Hampshire.

I'm sorry (0.00 / 0)
I've attended to rally after rally, Lobby day after Lobby day, and never saw any real support with boots on the ground from my political blogging friends for the Unions...until now when they claim the mantel...except for Strafford Dem, and Susanthe. That's what's wrong with blogging...all talk

Disagree (4.00 / 1)
When Dean puts his "boots on the ground" for innumerable Democratic candidates with 100% AFL-CIO records, and serves as an articulate fighter against right-wing efforts to undermine labor (and labor values), that's not just "all talk." . . . . I recognize that there is a tendency to equate blogging with actual hands-on persuasation of undecided voters, but do not believe that's the case here.

I should point out that, from what I know about them, I like both of the Democratic gubernatorial candidates. Kind of hoping you guys don't go to town on each others' picks.

I appreciate your point of view, but you are gilding the lily. Facts are facts...the whole community here basically did come out as it were, to support Marriage Equality...But if you had been to the Lobby days where we sign in against bills etc...Labor turned out for Labor, but in terms of volume of people, the party didn't and bloggers didn't. That's the way it went...that's why you see Labor not automatically supporting Democrats in my view...they feel the political types show up at election time hat in hand looking for donations...kind of like Jack feels about support for the military...politicians show up at election time acting all supportive, but often at no other time. We did not see the type of support for fighting RTW(for less) legislation from this community that we saw for Marriage Equality, why pretend?

To prove it, show me the number of FP's who wrote about it, or card check...I would be surprised if there were 25% the number of diaries.

The Unions got their people there, every time at America Votes to check in before sessions so there are sign in sheets to prove it. The Faith communities got their people there. The intellectual community not so much. I saw Mr. Twomey there once or twice I will add.

We're Off Topic IMHO (4.00 / 4)
Start another diary if you want to discuss whether Dean or any other regular around here know any electrical union members. Or your disappointment that NH bloggers do not understand Labor.

Dean is doing his job by posting the endorsement of his candidate from IBEW Local 2320 here on BH. His personal knowledge, relationship or support of Labor  is irrelevant. He is not the candidate.

Will not let this sort of sniping happen for this primary. (Same goes for anyone that would insinuate that Emily's List endorsed Maggie because her campaign manager used to work there)

I have a hard time seeing equivalence in Dean knowing IBEW members vs. Maggie getting the EL endorsement thanks to her hiring practices. (0.00 / 0)
Whether or not Dean - a union member himself I believe - knows IBEW members isn't relevant to whether or not they endorsed Jackie. However, I don't think it's nasty or unfair or in any way equivalent to ask whether Maggie's hiring of Matt Burgess influenced EL's decision to endorse her. This really smacks of false equivalence.

With all due respect, JB (0.00 / 0)
. . . . there are other ways to support labor other than attending lobby days. And, while I have occasionally questioned Dean's statements or approaches on this blog, I have no recollection of him doing anything but backing labor candidates and labor values.

As for why labor doesn't automatically support Democrats, that's a different discussion for a different day. But am pretty sure it has very little to do with lobby days, and far more to do with individual member positions on social issues (e.g., guns, abortion) and the personal friendships of certain union leaders (e.g., Dave Lang) with politicians that repeatedly vote against their members' interests (e.g., Charlie Bass).

The first of many (4.00 / 1)
As labor begins to understand the budget crisis that will greet our next governor. All "low hanging fruit" has been picked destroyed. The GOP Pledge is sure to lead to more, much more, painful and punitive cuts.

Public sector workers, who have carried a big burden in balancing budgets, understand this. I'm expecting and hopeful that their endorsements will match their interests.

Or they can continue the foolish and losing game of hedging bets.

In the immediate aftermath of Since the start of the financial crisis, the Fed/Treasury lent, spent, or guaranteed $28 $29 $30 trillion to save the banking system.

The Speaker's recent speech in Amherst points with pride to these accomplishments, and promises further decreases in spending next term.

To wild applause from the attendees.
