( - promoted by Laura Clawson)

I think the first couple are uncontroversial. After that it gets a bit arbitrary. Here's my list:

  1. Civil unions made legal.
  2. School funding constitutional amendment fails.
  3. John E. Sununu ranked one of most vulnerable Senators.
  4. Lynch reshapes state leadership: Safety Commissioner Richard Flynn, DHS Commissioner John Steven out.
  5. Ray Buckley wins state Democratic Chairmanship following a smear campaign waged against him.
  6. GOP primary imminent in NH-01; challengers to Hodes still lacking.
  7. Jeanne Shaheen enters Senate race.
  8. Tell-all phone jamming book appears - not yet in stores, but early recipients are starting to leak contents.
  9. New Hampshire Primary resurgent: Florida and Michigan rebuffed, candidates hoping to skip the early states (Giuliani, Thompson) in free-fall.

You can find some of the most thorough analysis of all these events right here. If I were to add a tenth, it would be the emergence of Blue Hampshire as a must-follow web site for progressives and political fans in the state.

Number 5? Pah-leeezeee! (0.00 / 0)
Of all the things that happened in NH this year, my election should be list number 10,473 at best.

Have you written a letter to the editor today? Have you donated today? Have you put up signs? Have you made calls? Have you talked to your neighbors?

IMO, it was a smear campaign (4.00 / 1)
designed to fragment the state Democratic Party into warring factions. Through a mix of discipline, patience, and a commitment to fairness it resulted in a more unified Party.

We grew up just a bit in that process.

Ray's election is a testament to the ability of good people to overcome slander in American politics. (0.00 / 0)
It absolutely deserves to be on that list.  That said, Ray's humility during that situation and in his comment above is a testament to his suitability for the job.

Thanks, Ray (4.00 / 1)
Raymond, it might not have been one of the "top" stories, but it was one of the most inspirational.  Thanks for your fight -- and for not letting those bastards grind you down.

How surreal was This American Life (0.00 / 0)
"Not Everybody Loves Raymond"

I remember hearing the story on a Saturday afternoon as I was putting Elise down for a nap and thinking how weird that must be, to be you , and to have the story on NPR...

Feeling hopeful since 2004...now "Secretary" of the New Boston Democratic Caucus
