Mail Call Week Ending Jan 6, 2008

by: Mike Hoefer

Sun Jan 06, 2008 at 13:45:22 PM EST

(One of my favorite features. - promoted by Mike Caulfield)

Even I am burnt out on mail at this point...

A large harvest this week Obama 5, Clinton "4" (1 Campaign, 1 ASFCME, 2 New Hampshire Women Vote), Richardson 2, Edwards "1" (via Alliance for A New America)

All the analysis I can muster for below the fold.

Mike Hoefer :: Mail Call Week Ending Jan 6, 2008
Obama
Almost all have some sort of GOTV Message (How to Register, Hotline for Rides, etc.).Maintains his record of no 527 mail on his behalf
  • Time for a New Approach to the Old Problems (Health Care)
  • Working Hard should be rewarded- End Corporate Tax Breaks, help the Middle Class.
  • Change We Can Believe In- Make History Tuesday January 8th. Boston Globe and Portsmouth Herald pull quotes.
  • Make History- Send a message the Corporate Lobbyist Can't Keep Blocking Change in Washington.

Clinton
Only 1 official campaign piece this week. But lots of help from the supportive 527s.
  • Ready to Deliver Change- Real Solutions for America's Greatest Challenges (Health Care, Economy, Foreign Policy, Energy)
    • Pull quotes from the Sentinel, Fosters, and Salmon Press (must have been designed before the Monitor?)
    • Lists all the Union Support
  • AFSCME- In America, no leader is better equipped to deliver health care reform than Hillary Clinton (my note... Is there someone better outside of America? Sloppy Headline)
  • New Hampshire Women Vote (NHWV)- Hillary Clinton: A Tested Experinced Leader to Change America.
  • NHWV 2- Repeat of the above with a photo of Mindy Kacavas (assumption that she is a NH voter)

Richardson
Maintains his record of sending "off" sized pieces. (No 527 that I can remember either)
  • How Many Left in Iraq? (8.5"x 14")
    • ... the only major candidate who has a plan to get every American Soldier out of Iraq.
    • Clinton, Edwards, Obama Test of Thousands left behind.
    • Contains "Endnotes" so you can check the facts
  • Shouldn't we be looking for someone who knows what they are doing?
    • One Democrat has made Government Work: Bill Richardson
    • Includes photos and endorsement pull quotes from State Rep. Ehlers and Mayor Marchand.
Edwards
New Hampshire Families are losing out because Special Interest Money Controls Washington. (This may be a duplicate of one they send a few weeks ago)

John Edwards Plan to help Middle-class Families:

  • Tax Relief for Middle-Class Families
  • Quality Health Care for Every American
  • Product Health Care and Pension Benefits
  • Opportunity Through Education
  • Energy Independence for America

Did anyone get this controversial "Abortion" Mailer that Clinton Sent out? Appears to attempt to make an issue of Obama's "Present" votes while in the Illinois legislature. A non-issue smear.

How much Mail will we get Monday or Tuesday? Which campaign will have egg on their face for a Wednesday arrival?

Update:As I was posting this a robo call comes in, paid for by Barack Obama from Susan Walsh? Wendy Frosh who is involved with a NH choice groupBoard Chair Planned Parenthood  Northern New England and informs that Barack Obama has a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood. Nice rapid response from Team Obama. (Next cycle I'm going to get an easy way to record these things...)

Update II: Ben Smith has a recording of the call defending Obama's record.

You missed Hilary's attack on Obama's Reproductive Rights stance (0.00 / 0)
It was totally false, worse than the Swift Boaters. It is really turning people off, especially since a member of Planned Parenthood penned a response that is flying around the ether and points out the errors.

the mailer (0.00 / 0)
I got the anti-choice mailer yesterday, and today I got a robo call from the president of Planned parenthood of NNE.

Mentioned here at the end (0.00 / 0)
I did not get he mailing but there is some good web stuff going on debunking it.

The Mailer

Truth busting I

Truth busting II

A desperate act from a desperate campaign, certainly not sent from a position of strength.

Anti-Choice Attack (0.00 / 0)
All we really need to know is this:

Obama voted the way he did as part of a strategy that was developed by Planned Parenthood and the Illinois Pro-Choice community.

Hillary's attack is a blatant lie, and she knows it.

I'm an Obama/Edwards/Kucinich/Gravel Democrat.  1968-2008: Hoping this year is different.

Back up (0.00 / 0)
The "present" votes are blessed by Planned Parenthood. http://blogs.abcnews.com/polit...

"the Chicago Tribune's Eric Zorn scrutinized the votes and found that Obama was actually applying a progressive legislative strategy."

SGS is Jack Mitchell of Lowell, MA. The symbolism of the "sleeping giant" is based on my HOPE for America.

Mike, as you mentioned on the Edward thread, thanks for your efforts (0.00 / 0)
ABC News/Facebook Debate: Edwards Beats Hillary, Again!

On the first question of the debate, Edwards provided the most comprehensive answer:

Matthew Yglesias

Edwards "Gave a Fantastic Response" on Answer to Rid the World of Nuclear Weapons.

"John Edwards pivoted a bit to the broader issue of non-proliferation policy where he gave a fantastic answer about the need to combine short-term efforts with a long-term commitment to 'rid the world of nuclear weapons' as part of a broad push to revitalize the non-proliferation framework."

This fight, for Edwards is personal.

TAPPED's Harold Meyerson
His Personal Narration Is Powerful... Edwards Is the Master Here.

Edwards has just referred to his orientation as personal, not academic (read: Obama) or political (read: Hill). And his personal narration is powerful. Slowly, Obama moves to talking about his mother when she was suffering from cancer, but it's almost as if Edwards forced the story out of him. Edwards is the master.

Edwards is the people's candidate! And it showed again at lastnight's debate:

Edwards is really unparalleled when it comes to connecting policies with people. I certainly find it very effective.
