Poll: Is the "Dream Ticket" Your Dream?

by: Douglas E. Lindner

Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 18:38:40 PM EDT

It's a simple question, really.  Do you think the so-called Dream Ticket (Clinton and Obama together) is the best-case scenario?  I'm not asking if you think it's a worthwhile idea, only if it is, in fact, your personal dream ticket.  Personally, it's not mine.
Douglas E. Lindner :: Poll: Is the "Dream Ticket" Your Dream?
Poll
Is a ticket with BOTH Obama AND Clinton our best option at this point?
Yes, both should be on the ticket in the end
Only if Obama is at the top
Only if Clinton is at the top
No, regardless of which one is at the top

So far, out of 9 votes, 100% have gone to "No, regardless of which one is at the top" (0.00 / 0)
I suspected this would be the prevalent sentiment, though the unanimity (so far) surprises me.

Anyway, I think I speak for many (but surely not all) of those who aren't thrilled about the "dream ticket" idea when I say it's not because of animosity toward the other candidate so much as a feeling that it would be a very poor fit--not as poor as McCain/Romney, but close.  Conflicting personalities and all.  And by the way, I doubt either Clinton or Obama would take the #2 spot under anyone.

For now, at least, this dream lives only in Wolf Blitzer's great white head..

I think the dream ticket idea (4.00 / 1)
was more of a Clinton camp ploy to get on-the-fence voters to vote for her, thinking they could get both. Obama has said unequivocally that he would not take the VP spot.

For about a week, it was. (0.00 / 0)
But mostly, I think it's a media fabrication, as is the enthusiasm surrounding it.

more like a nightmare n/t (4.00 / 1)

You can read more of JDRyan at five before chaos. But why would you go and do something like that?

Both Are Effective Leaders And Good People (0.00 / 0)
Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are effective leaders and good people.  Yes, we've now gone through months of finding out the weaknesses of each, but if they were on the ticket together we'd identify and emphasize their strengths.  It's my dream ticket, as I said months ago and still believe.

Other good candidates for Vice President are out there, of course, and will do very well.  But we should consider Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as strengths of the Democratic Party.  Both are visionary, and although each has different personalities and character, both have already done some great things to make us strong in November, 2008.

As I said, I'm not against the "dream ticket" because I dislike either candidate; that's not the case. (0.00 / 0)
I just think either of them would be better utilized as a Senator than as the other's VP.  I don't think their talents compliment each other as well as other options.

I'm betting on Jim Webb (0.00 / 0)
for Obama's VP.

Not because I'm crazy about him, but from many angles it's a good fit.

The one hitch is that he's been Senator for only about 2 or 3 minutes.  What would it mean for the other VA senate race, as well as his own seat?

It won't be Webb. (0.00 / 0)
It will be someone with so much experience that the first-term Senator argument will be nullified.  Also, it shouldn't be a Senator.

Then again, I'm very heavily biased toward Richardson.

Top 5 Obama and Clinton VP Picks (0.00 / 0)
If I had to guess at the most promising VP picks for either Clinton or Obama these would be them, imo

In no particular order

Gov. Bill Richardson
Gov. Ted Strickland
Gov. Mark Warner
Gov. Mike Easley
Gov. Christine Gregoire

We need Mark Warner to run for Senate (0.00 / 0)

True (0.00 / 0)
But he would make a great VP.

[ Parent ]
Bill Clinton Eligible (0.00 / 0)
Let's see.  The Constitution limits a person from being President for more than two terms, but could Bill Clinton be chosen as Vice President?  That "Obama-Clinton" ticket would reduce the "experience" question to Barack Obama.  In fact, a Clinton-Clinton ticket would would allow for great bumper sticker graphics and neat television commercials.  Let's start a draft.

Neither is possible. (0.00 / 0)
Obama-Bill Clinton is impossible because Bill Clinton is ineligible for the Vice Presidency, as one must be eligible for the Presidency to hold the Vice Presidency--Bill himself has expressed this legal opinion.

Furthermore, Clinton-Clinton is even more impossible because the President and Vice President cannot be from the same state.

Not Convinced Yet - Waiting For Elwood (0.00 / 0)
Thanks Doug, but I'm not convinced yet that Bill Clinton wouldn't be a great VP and can't do it.  I'd like Elwood to chime in.  We can change the Constitution, right Elwood? What do you think?

[ Parent ]
If Obama is on top... (0.00 / 0)
Everyone seems to be eyeing Richardson for VP, but I like him better as Secretary of State.

In my fantasy world, I need to see John Edwards up there somewhere.  ;-)

I think Obama might do well to select a woman Gov, and try to bring back some of those who supported HRC.  So we can all be one big happy Donkey Family again.
