Sound familiar? Brooks is laying one more building block on a foundation to make this election all about Obama. It is all part of a GOP game plan to define Obama as not being one of us.
Joan Walsh of Salon does a much better job than I ever could in responding to Brooks. Some of her points bear repeating.
The Republicans are very good at this with their stupid ads with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Now this BS from Brooks about Obama being "hard to place."
In certain respects Obama has not helped himself in the past (e.g. Reverend Wright, clinging to guns and religion). All signals point to a conventional vice presidential choice and another love fest at Invesco Field on his nomination night at the convention.
Hopefully Obama is resting well in Hawaii. He should be ready to come out of the vacation on the offensive and with all guns blazing. There is still time.
Obama promised us unconventional and inspiring politics and he needs to deliver because the Republicans are laying the groundwork for a con job never before seen in American politics.
Hard to believe it will be worse than the hatchet jobs they did on Al Gore, John Kerry, and Michael Dukakis. But it will be, if it succeeds.
We, of course, need to do our part to make sure that the GOP does not succeed.
Everytime a family member or friend receives one of those viral emails claiming Obama is not a Christian or has accepted massive amounts of money from foreign sources, we have to speak up and out about how the sources of those emails are wrong and evil.
Yes, we have to repeat over and over again that McCain is more of the same of the last eight years of incompent Bush.
Most importantly, we need to tell our friends and family about the friendly and inspiring Obama that we personally witnessed in the snows of New Hampshire back last year and in January.
Obama is not an outsider; he is one of us.
