Rasmussen (8/19): Shaheen 51% - Sununu 40%

by: Dean Barker

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 18:43:23 PM EDT

Rasmussen (which weighs for party affiliation) continues to show a clear lead for the former Governor, and the Sprinter once again falls well below the 50% incumbent danger zone
Shaheen 51%
Sununu 40%

With "leaners"

Shaheen 52%
Sununu 43%

Combined "very" and "somewhat favorable"
Shaheen 55%
Sununu 49%

Combined "very" and "somewhat unfavorable"
Shaheen 39%
Sununu 44%

Look for the local papers to cover this non-horesrace showing with as much breathless vigor as they did the summer UNH one < /snark>.

Oh, and I can't forget my NH-Sen poll lucky charm:

In possible defense of the UNH poll (4.00 / 1)
Rasmussen ALSO had a NH Senate poll in July, shortly after the UNH poll. Your link includes its numbers. I assume it used Rasmussen's standard party weighting methodology.

It showed a five-point race.

So: I wonder if both UNH and Rasmussen were skewed at the time by some odd demographic thing regarding who is around to answer the phone in July. (The UNH poll seemed to be an unusually high-income sample, IIRC.)

In any case - the latest poll casts some doubt on the July numbers - and that shadow falls on the numbers for the Congressional races too.

Maybe a reason right there (4.00 / 1)
not to have a primary in July?

Wonder if Sununu's fired now.

Thanks, Dean! (4.00 / 2)
It had been so long since I heard that song!

One of the things to keep in mind here is that this poll comes after a barrage of anti-Shaheen from "non-profit", "non-partisan", "issues advocacy" groups that seem to like Senator* Sununu.

Hmmm - phoney issues groups; a senator with an asterik; a supposed fiscal conservative who twiddled his thumbs while his mentor Ted Stevens funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to Alaska and/or his buddies; I sense a pattern of faux-ness.

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

Bring It, Jeannie (4.00 / 1)
Based on my informal sample -- from four hours of voter ID phone banking at the Lebanon HQ on Monday night -- registered Undecided voters want the Gov.
