John McCain's Empty Talk on the NH Primary

by: Dean Barker

Sun Aug 24, 2008 at 22:13:51 PM EDT

When are the New Hampshire media outlets going to wake up and notice that we all got played by John McCain's empty words about our primary?

We have known for a little while now that, due to the early date of our primary, the John McCain led Republican party is punishing New Hampshire by not recognizing half of our GOP delegates. This precedent is an ominous one for our First in the Nation status.

But all it took was 30 seconds of a YouTube search to find these clips of McCain making promises he had no intention of keeping:

"They keep moving the dates up, they keep moving the dates further and further up, and it obviously encroaches, or endangers, the state of New Hampshire. Now, I will promise you, I will do everything in my power - and I say this because of my reverence for the system - everything in my power to make sure that New Hampshire maintains its First in the Nation status."

- John McCain, Franklin, NH, March 23, 2007

"As you know, every state is literally moving their primary date up, up, up... We must preserve New Hampshire's First in the Nation status for the good of the nation. For the good of the nation, not necessarily just because of the good of the state of New Hampshire.

- John McCain, Plymouth, NH, March 26, 2007

"The state of New Hampshire, as usual, is in danger of losing its First in the Nation status. I want to promise you that I will do everything in my power to make sure that that status is maintained. New Hampshire deserves it."

- John McCain, Hopkinton, NH, October 14, 2007

The man's word is not bond. He got what he wanted out of us, and now he's not recognizing half of NH's GOP delegates.

Every voter in this state should bring this to bear in the voting booth come November.

16yr old calls him a "broken record" (0.00 / 0)
From JedReport
Here's a gem of a video clip from the archives. During the January 30 GOP debate at the Reagan Library, Janet Hook of the LA Times asked John McCain why he was more qualified than Mitt Romney to manage the economy. In response, McCain managed to:
+ Say nothing about the economy
+ Say he was more patriotic than Mitt Romney
+ Cite his experience as a POW
+ Argue that "radical Islamic extremism" is a more important issue
+ Criticize a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq
+ Did I mention, say nothing about the economy?

It's truly a hall-of-fame moment in the annals of chronic dodgery. Video and transcript below.

My daughter has spotted the phoney.

Teenagers, (0.00 / 0)
as is my opinion from my job as HS teacher, have a keener nose for sniffing out a phoney than other age groups, including adults.

So I don't doubt your daughter's wisdom here for a moment.

John McCain: Unable to Lead the Republican Party (0.00 / 0)
Unable to lead the nation.

Well, since he's doing "everything in my power," (0.00 / 0)
it's clear his power ain't very powerful.

But then, Republicans have been parsing language for a long time.  I've been aware of it since "urban renewal" actually meant "urban removal" back in the early seventies.  The idea was to thin out the urban populations because, spread out over the countryside, they would be easier to control.

After all, it was the migration of people from the south to the northern cities which promoted the civil rights movement.

Defending McCain's position on the primary: (4.00 / 2)
He was a POW. Go away.
