Evening Dispatch From the Shaheen War Room

by: Kathy Sullivan

Sun Nov 02, 2008 at 17:50:44 PM EST

(I'm enjoying these updates... - promoted by Dean Barker)

It is eerily quiet in the war room.  A number of people went over to the Clinton Rally for Change, but when the fire marshall told us that he wouldn't let anyone else in, about 28 members of the staff left the event and went to grab a bite to eat. I came back to the war room, and am drinking diet pepse and eating m&m's; I love the excuse of election weekend to eat candy!

Anyway, thanks to all the young people who have been working so hard to make this election successful, who sacrificed the opportunity to hear President Clinton, Gov. Shaheen, Gov. Lynch and Congressmen Hodes and Shea Porter so that other people could get in.  Somehow NHDP political director Mike Brunelle managed to get out and in a couple of times so he was able to get two people to take his one place! When I walked out I thought I heard someone count me twice as well, so we continue the great NHDP tradition of turning loaves into fishes!

Kathy Sullivan :: Evening Dispatch From the Shaheen War Room
Before leaving, I did have the opportunity to speak with Gov. Lynch and our two congressmen; they are very enthusiastic about the prospects for Tuesday.  Several of the state senators were there, tired but still working hard.  Bob Backus was there, and I really hope he pulls his race off against Ted Gatsas, the John E. Sununu of the state senate and the Manchester Board of Aldermen in that he thinks he is the smartest person in the room, a belief for which there is no foundation.  Betsi DeVries looked terrific after a long day of door to door campaigning; she is a great state senator, and she deserves re-election for her great work in the senate.

So, that is my evening dispatch from the Shaheen War Room; let's all get some rest tonight and be fresh for tomorrow!!

Good Luck on Tuesday (4.00 / 2)
Kathy/All -

Good luck to all on Tuesday. Every two years people from all walks of life and political persuasions work their tails off for positions and candidates they believe in. Having fought on that battlefield as both a candidate and an operative, I know tensions are running high about now.  There is much to do and time is now the enemy. I have respect for those who willingly put themselves through this each and every cycle. No matter where you stand on issues, you make this country better by sparking a debate and getting involved. Our form of government is best served by a healthy debate and hard work. While I may or may not agree you on specific issues and/or candidates, I respect you for how hard you fight for what you believe in.

PS: Eat all the M&M's and Pizza while you can. It is the only time when we all get a free pass. :)

My Thoughts (0.00 / 0)
After 15 hours of canvassing in Webster during the past 3 days, I am growing increasingly confident. My IDs of undecideds are solidly in our favor, and our field is a machine....Twelve years ago, I was the only staff member for the coordinated campaign I'm Merrimack County. Now there are at least 15, bolstered by a meticulous organization and outstanding technology. Bottom line: we are finding voters.

Have to run now, but will have more time to report after Tuesday. In the meantime, back to work!
