by: Dean Barker

Some nice news for the coming of spring.

Longtime Blue Hamster, unfailingly progressive, and wonderfully articulate jbd will be joining us on the front page as a contributing writer.

Let's welcome her aboard!

Update: And how's this for an encore? jbd will now be blogging under her own name, Jennifer Daler.

Her, eh? I had no idea. And sexist pig that I am, I assumed the opposite.

You're not the only one. (4.00 / 1)
Do I think/write like a guy?

Digging my own hole here (4.00 / 2)
I had you pegged as a guy too. I'm thinking it might have simply been the use of initials - I'm more used to that with men (T.S. Eliot, I.F. Stone).

But then the poet h.d. was Hilda Doolittle, so my little assumption is just a reflection of "the media pays more attention to men, so that's the default."

I KNEW I was getting in trouble.

[ Parent ]
um, me too... (4.00 / 2)
I'm embarrassed to admit.

2012 starts today.

I wish Blue Hampshire was hello, searchable the way it used to be...
I think I thought I had determined your gender, BECAUSE, you made every effort to be un...genderish !%? But you slipped in something like a clue after a long time. We were watching you, to you know, see if you was, well, you know, a girl. We were right Mo. She's a her.

Maybe Jim and Elwood thought your verb tenses are very masculine ;-) (4.00 / 2)
As for me, I think all anons are disembodied voices, perhaps coming from robots.

Way to redeem your humanity, sister!

Three cheers for the toast of Temple!

It's kind of weird. (0.00 / 0)
I don't even know what thinking/writing like a guy means. That may be a subject to write about some time.

according to this, my blog is written by a man.

It said my last diary (0.00 / 0)

Running your "Jennifer Daler's Page" diary list, (0.00 / 0)
68% chance of being written by a man.

We guess http://www.bluenewstribune.com/ is written by a woman (56%), however it's quite gender neutral.

Maybe that should be BNT's motto.

[ Parent ]
And (0.00 / 0)
We think http://www.eagleforum.org/psr/... is written by a man (69%).

Masculine tenses? (0.00 / 0)
There must be some connection between "conjugate" and "conjugal."

Is there a Latin teacher in the house ?

[ Parent ]
In Latin (4.00 / 2)
If you happen to be in the passive voice and in the perfect system of tenses (perfect, pluperfect, future perfect indicative, and perfect and pluperfect subjunctive), you are, by way of the formation of the verb, required to give away the gender of the subject: masculine, feminine, or neuter ("neither").

But in English I can't think of any case where gender is given away by verb tense.

Of course, the problem in English is with using a hypothetical person as a subject, because one if forced to go with pluralizing the object pronoun to "them" to avoid a "him" or "her."  That's kind of annoying.

Checking my ego at the door! (4.00 / 2)
OK, so me being new to NH politics... HAH!  I met Jennifer Daler, my (former and FUTURE) State Rep in 2007 on the floor at Oprahpalooza.  Introduced myself to her as a constituent, and a BH frequenter, etc... we got to know each other, visited, I worked on her campaign etc... I thought I was introducing her to Blue Hampshire! ha ha ha...

So, when she called me last night to give me the heads up about her unveiling today, I was floored!!!  And so pleasantly pleased...  How lucky we are to have had her all along...  We are very lucky to have her as a front-page contributor, thanks for putting HER out front for all to see!

Feeling hopeful since 2004...now "Secretary" of the New Boston Democratic Caucus

Let me ditto... (4.00 / 1)
... Catriona on the congrats.
From your other old session day car pool buddy.
