Kelly Ayotte Refuses to Say if She Voted for John Lynch

"No interest in voting to overturn Roe" (4.00 / 7)

This is cute spin from Ayotte and diStaso.

NOBODY in the Republican party wants to "vote to overturn Roe." That would require a full blown campaign to amend the Constitution and would put their party inalterably under the control of the Christian right.

Instead they vote to block any judge or Justice who might support precedent on Roe, and search for activist Justices who will overturn it without an amendment.

This is the standard position of the GOP.

The ballot is supposed to be secret. Besides, since I see no reason (0.00 / 0)

why only someone who's been charged with a crime has a right to remain silent, not answering an impertinent question should at least be a candidate's prerogative.  If the stupid questions were asked by a reporter, no votes are going to be lost by refusing to answer.

Once again, Kelly Ayotte refused to an answer a simple question. If she did not want to politicize her prior employment, she wouldn't be bringing it up every time she speaks at a Republican function. It would be one thing if she said what Hannah said - it is none of your business who I voted for, it is a secret ballot - but she did not. Instead, she said something that made no sense whatsoever.

Schrödinger's candidate (4.00 / 3)

She supported and voted for Lynch.  And she supported and voted for Coburn and Kenney.

She supported the stimulus as necessary and good for NH.  And she opposed the stimulus as wasteful and bad for NH.

She's a comfortable bridge-building bipartisan moderate.  And she's a strong pro-life partisan conservative.

She's the trusted anointed choice of Judd Gregg and DC GOP movers and shakers.  And she's a plucky local grassroots Kelly-from-the-block pulling herself up by her own bootstraps by popular demand.

The only way to collapse her wave function into a single state is to nominate and elect her.

Why can't you people simply accept that and do it?

She mentions it about once every two minutes in the clips that are up on you tube. She is running on little other than her time as AG, so it is entirely disingenuous to say that she doesn't want to politicize her tenure as AG.

(Just to be clear, there is nothing wrong with her running on her record as AG, as she should be proud of her service to the state as AG, it's just not a valid excuse for not answering the question posed to her. And her record as AG does little to tell us about how she would deal with the difficult issues facing the country. If she wants to be a US Senator, at some time she is going to have to take a position on something).

Which is more than you can say for Meg Whitman, the ex-eBay CEO running for the Republican nomination for governor in California. According to a Sacramento Bee investigation, Whitman rarely voted until becoming actively involved in GOP politics.

According to the Bee:

After she registered in San Mateo in 2002, Whitman then missed half the local, state and federal elections held until 2007. She didn't vote in the recall election that swept Schwarzenegger into office or the special election he called in 2005.

For what it's worth, I'd guess Ayotte voted for Craig Benson in 2004 and for Lynch in 2006 and 2008.

By not answering the question, she lets Democrats think she voted for a Democrat, and Republicans think she may not have.  It really doesn;t matter who she voted for. What matters is that she will not answer a direct question on anything that may hurt her with the Republican base. She ducks and covers.

There is something wrong with a candidate who will not take a stand on so many things.  A candidate like that will roll over in DC, instead of standing up to either his/her party or special interests.

Paul Hodes was criticized here for not voting for the Wilson resolution, and for co-signing a letter on taxes and health insurance reform.  Agree with him or not, the guy doesn't drift with the current; Kelly Ayotte does like a duck on a river.
