May Straw Poll - Senate Primary

by: Nicholas Gunn

Tue May 01, 2007 at 11:32:13 AM EDT

I want to ask you for a favor.

Below the fold is the first in what I hope will be a series of Blue Hampshire reader straw polls for the Senate Primary.  We would like to do these on a regular basis, with the hopes of tracking the results as the election draws closer.

You must be logged in to vote.  If you have an account, please log in and click on 'There's More...' to vote.  If you don't have an account but are a regular reader, feel free to sign up for a free user account and vote.

Obviously, this is not a scientific poll.  If we get a large enough sample, however, we can still get a good deal of insight from it.  For the purposes of this poll, I will only be listing declared candidates.  If you choose 'other' please explain why in the comments.

Your votes will be anonymous, so you don't have to come out publicly in favor of one candidate or another.  Feel free to use this thread to discuss the candidates.

Thank you for voting!

I couldn't include Jay Buckey (0.00 / 0)
because he hasn't declared himself as a candidate yet.

I'd like to do this similar to how the Daily Kos does their monthly Straw Polls for the Presidential Primary.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Everybody likes a poll.

Yes. (0.00 / 0)
And I'd love to hear from folks why they chose whom they did, and who the "other" is, if that was chosen.

Our Democracy for America group (4.00 / 1)
prefers to make informed choices.  To that end, we've invited Stave Marchand and he'll be attending our monthly meeting tomorrow.
We sort of pride ourselves on having hosted the first public interaction between John Lynch and Paul McEachern in 2004, as well as the first forum for the Congressional candidates in the First District for the 2006 election.  While some of our members are sure to be involved in Representative Shea-Porter's re-election, the size of our group is such that we expect to be active in the election of a new Senator as well.

Absolutely (0.00 / 0)
There is a long time still before the Primary.  Obviously, its  likely that people's opinions on the candidates will change over time, particularly as we learn more about the,.

By starting this early, however, we can get a good picture of how the community's views change over time.

I would love to hear (0.00 / 0)
your take of the Mayor at the DFA meeting.

Mayor Steve (0.00 / 0)
I attended a small meeting of Concord activists tonight and listened to Steve hold forth on a number of issues.
He is great and can command a room, in a gentle and pleasant way, yet moving the agenda all the time.

I know that I run counter to many here and choose to make up my mind early so I can commit and spend my time working to get my candidate elected. I don't believe in witholding
or standing back to get a closer look. I've been doing this too long.
It's Marchand all the way.
He's got the right stuff.
He knows the plight of the working class,
he was born and raised in Manchester, and
knows first hand what happens when someone gets sick,
loses their job, and then their insurance.
He can win in Manchester where he grew up, as well
as Liberal Portsmouth where he garners 67% of the vote.

He is a fiscally oriented person, who seeks to get value for the taxpayers of Portsmouth. He will bring that same fiduciary responsibility to the problems of our nation.
He's worked for AARP, the Concord Coalition, and numerous political campaigns before his own.
He looks you in the eye, is genuinely friendly, and  knowing him for 9 years, my perception is that he is guileless.
Steve Marchand is my candidate for the Democratic Senatorial Nomination, and the right person to take down Johnny E. Sununu.

Next time, there may be no next time.
