Pignatelli has said she is not running for CD2.  That leaves Dr. Swett, who has been mentioned many times as a possible candidate and who has been making the rounds to local Dem events.

I prefer not to call across state lines, especially if I'm talking to "lean"-ers. However, as this race will be all about turning out the base, it should be very easy for Coakley HQ to send up some call lists of "Strong Democrat, Likely Voter." Those folks won't bristle if you have a funny accent. ;v)

Rumor has it that out of state sources(Group Leddy?)are behind this move. It's hard to say, nobody's talking. Are unknown forces at work in the 2nd district?

KATRINA'S HOUSE PARTY. Democrat Katrina Swett appears on the verge of becoming a candidate for the 2nd District U.S. House seat.Although she has yet to make an announcement, an email from a Swett aid obtained by the Granite Status invites recipients to "Come meet our next U.S.Congresswoman!"

It invites prospective supporters to "a house party with Katrina Swett, Candidate for Congress" on Jan. 31 at the Nashua home of state Rep. Jane Clemons.

Swett, of Bow, moved toward a run for the U.S. Senate in 2007, but withdrew after current Sen. Jeanne Shaheen announced her candidacy. Swett's Senate campaign finance committee remains in tact, boasting $870,177 on hand as of Sept. 30.

She has yet to set up a new campaign finance committee for a House run.

Her most recent comments about a House candidacy came in early December, when she told a Washington-based blog, Hotline OnCall, that she was moving "very, very strongly" toward a run.

I think it's all about early days (0.00 / 0)

John has a lot of work to do to become known - I don't see the "other" as an endorsement or an indictment - for either John or  Ann.

The total of 61 votes tells the story about how active the "non-junkies" are right now.

As for the 50 people who came to breakfast in support of Ann - surely most have accounts on Blue Hampshire and if not how politically astute are they?

standing on the sidelines looking for a reason to enter the fray.

I think there was another thread awhile back about how often the larger or more statewide campaign are more directly involved here, and for one reason or another often local candidates aren't.  I don't think that is always true, but I do remember a thread about it, and Karen Liot Hill chimed in with her thoughts, from the perspective of a local who IS on here....

State Representatives and BH (0.00 / 0)

I was the one who made the comments on local candidates in a comment entitled something like Welcome to my World.  My reasons, summarized, were:

1.  Lack of time.  State Reps are having to put in an enormous amount of time in Concord during session.  Add travel time, and remember that we do not have the choice to move closer to the job.  I spend two and a half hours on the road for the round trip, assuming dry pavement and no slow vehicles.  Wednesday, the day of the Kuster breakfast, I left the house at 6:45 AM and returned shortly after 8:00 PM, and then had to check the 60 or so emails from that day to see if any were from people in my district, and write responses to them.  Had I been able to return earlier than 8:00 PM on Wednesday, I would have gone to a DoT hearing on the rebuilding of Route 12 in North Walpole.  On Thursday evening, had I been able to return earlier than 8:00 PM, I would have gone to an informational meeting on the Fall Mountain High School building project.  Weekends?  Oh, please.  Did you see the notice of the Cheshire Dems fundraiser?  You get the picture.

2.  It makes sense for a statewide or Congressional candidate to spend time on BH.  All,  or at least half of the instate Hamsters are potential supporters.  How many of you are from Alstead, Marlow, Nelson, Roxbury, Stoddard, Sullivan or Walpole, the towns in my district?  The last time I asked that question here, no one 'fessed up to living in my district.  My spare time (hah!) is often better spent meeting my actual constituents.

3.  The "gotcha" factor.  I write very carefully when I post here, because opponents undoubtedly troll BH looking for words written hastily or positions taken for the sake of argument to use in a campaign.  Writing carefully takes time.

4.  The other "gotcha" factor.  As much as I try to work collaboratively in the House, I spend a lot of time up to my ears in strife.  I'm not in a rush to spend the miniscule amount of down time remaining to me in yet another forum where I risk getting yelled at.

5.  Many Reps also work at jobs that actually pay money, and families.  I don't know how they do it.

I'm not paying $400.00 for Pindell's updates. . .
