Rep. Baldasaro Should Resign for Saying NH is "Selling Children to Homosexuals for $10,000 each"

NHDP Chair Ray Buckley Calls on Rep. Al Baldasaro to Resign After Saying NH is "Selling Children to Homosexuals for $10,000 each"

Concord -  Ray Buckley, Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, released the following statement after Republican state Representative Al Baldasaro  (R-Londonderry), while testifying before the NH House Judiciary Committee last Wednesday, stated that "The state of New Hampshire is selling children to homosexuals for $10,000 each."

"Rep. Baldasaro's remarks have no place in New Hampshire and certainly not from a state elected official.  He needs to immediately apologize for his outrageous statement.  And his Londonderry colleague House Minority Leader Rep. Sherman Packard, as well as Deputy Minority Leader Rep. David Hess of Hooksett and Republican 16th District Senate candidate Rep. David Boutin of Hooksett should denounce these ridiculously hateful remarks and demand his resignation."

"The Granite State is a place where people of different backgrounds are accepted, not discriminated against based on their, race, gender, or sexual orientation.  To make such an ignorant comment is an embarrassment to his party, his office, and to our state. Republican legislative leaders should take swift and determined action against Rep. Baldasaro."

Rep. Al Baldasaro (4.00 / 2)
is an embarrassment to New Hampshire for using this language. He should, without a doubt, resign.

TPM has picked this up: http://tpmlivewire.talkingpoin...

well he didn't resign (0.00 / 0)
He has not resigned.  He is very much still there. He had the chance to go to the well of the House on Wednesday the 27th and apologize which is what reps are supposed to do when you do something embarrassing.  He didn't use the opportunity.  But he apparently has been apologizing.

Today I testified in front of the State-Federal & Veterans Affairs Committee (which he belongs to) and he showed up for the hearing--- which is more than I can say for about half of his fellow committee members.  He did nothing embarrassing: he just sat there and listened.

It was an unexciting bill: I am cosponsoring an HCR urging the state to rescind any outstanding requests for a federal Constitutional Convention.  I felt a little silly urging the state to stop something which has never actually happened in 200 years.

Lars Christiansen, another House eccentric, actually had a juicy topic for an HCR which was also heard today.  He wants to get rid of the direct election of US Senator: he wants the state legislatures to start appointing them, as they did till about 100 years ago.  This is a timely idea, but he expressed himself so unclearly no one understood what the bill was about.

At the recent hearing (4.00 / 3)
on HB 1683 (a bill requiring random drug tests on recipients of food stamps or TANF) Baldasaro referred to food stamp recipients as "society's trash."

From 2008-2009, the number of food stamp recipients in NH increased by 23% - in what (to a non-insane person) would clearly be a response to the increasing level of unemployment.

Must have been the marching orders this week ... (4.00 / 2)
From the Nashua Telegraph:
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - After The Greenville News reported [South Carolina Republican Lt. Gov. Andre] Bauer drew a comparison between "feeding stray animals" and doling out government assistance, Democratic candidates for governor called Bauer's comments despicable, embarrassing and unchristian ...

... At a town hall meeting Thursday in northwestern South Carolina, Bauer noted his grandmother "told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed."

Meant to add this line as well (0.00 / 0)
He said people on welfare should be required to pass drug tests and be offered incentives, such as child care, to earn their GED.

Enough (0.00 / 0)
Look, Jon, I don't know what provoked this silly vendetta, but this is not the place for it. You don't have to post a snarky, off-topic reply to every post I make on Blue Hampshire or Facebook. You've done this many times now, and it reflects poorly on you and your candidate.

"I don't know what provoked this silly vendetta" (0.00 / 1)
no vendetta...but stupidity offends...it started with your 1.muling about not getting your ass kissed for the Inaugural...that's when I realized you were 2.self centered and it was all about you.  Then came the 3.old commie class war comments, and the ripping of my candidate(see no.1)
I am sick and tired of reading anything you write anywhere.
4. when you threatened me by email to keep my asskissing commenys off your page....you got my lifelong help and attention directed to your cause. Try shutting up or apologizing. That would help. Either way.

FWIW: The Eagle Tribune does not think he should resign (4.00 / 2)
Editorial: Silly comment no cause for resignation. State Rep. Al Baldasaro, R-Londonderry, brings a great deal of passion to his legislative work.

Passion does not excuse is comments. Read it here: http://www.eagletribune.com/pu...

for the record (4.00 / 1)
I would react no differently if a similar comment were made about my background, and in fact was motivated by not wanting to appear to only be sensitive to anti-Jewish slurs.Pointing it out was perhaps a mistake, but the administrator had previously indicated to me that a certain blawgah was almost out the door for repeated site violations. This to me is a more relevant and distasteful issue, than ratings abuse. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of asshats. No time left for you.
I did receive a very nice note from someone who thanked me for generally calling out stupidity, and that did motivate to push back harder. But you know what? This is all irrelevant anyway. We talk, we type, and things dissolve. So much for progressive values and meaningful discussion leading to a new solution to old problems.
Through empirical analysis, with the exception of HR-436, I am not sure we have any effect on anything. Even less than a legislator who only stands to lose 100. for holding on to his idiotic and hateful positions, I have nothing to lose in calling a stupid a stupid.

How Dr. Kevorkian of me (0.00 / 0)
I'm a proponent of blog assisted political suicide.

Though I very much respect the artful slip of a velvet shiv, my demeanor prefers hamfisted blunt force.

I'm uprating you because you took a couple of days to think this over.
