NH-02: Freedom! (Unless You're Gay or Lesbian)

by: Dean Barker

Fri Mar 05, 2010 at 06:42:45 AM EST

I missed this from last Sunday:
The Family Research Council Action PAC endorsed congressional candidate Jennifer Horn, praising her as an advocate for "individual liberties and personal freedoms."

Individual liberties and personal freedoms? Why, that's the New Hampshire way!  Live Free or Die!

Unless, of course, you are gay or lesbian.

In that case you are "harmful... to society at large" and "by definition unnatural" to those who want to impose their religious beliefs onto you:

Family Research Council believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed.  It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects.  While the origins of same-sex attractions may be complex, there is no convincing evidence that a homosexual identity is ever something genetic or inborn. We oppose the vigorous efforts of homosexual activists to demand that homosexuality be accepted as equivalent to heterosexuality in law, in the media, and in schools. Attempts to join two men or two women in "marriage" constitute a radical redefinition and falsification of the institution, and FRC supports state and federal constitutional amendments to prevent such redefinition by courts or legislatures.
Do real libertarians know how much they are being suckered by the religious right's attempt to co-opt the flavor of the day?

If Jennifer Horn really cared about personal freedom she would reject this endorsement.

Or a woman. (4.00 / 2)
The Family Research Council on Roe v Wade:

The Roe v. Wade decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, declaring abortion to be a constitutional "right," was without foundation in the text of the constitution and thus was wrongly decided, and we look forward to the day when this grave error will be corrected.

Funny how the same folks who hate teh gays and want to take away their rights also hate women and want to take away their rights as well.

"Freedom is obedience to the law" (0.00 / 0)
and the law is what the man says it is.

Very simple, really.

To enjoy freedom is to be freed from one's natural, depraved condition.

Males trying to unite with males may be natural (ducks do it, after all, and dogs try to united with chair legs), but man is a superior creature and must deserve his natural rights by being properly subservient to authority.

If there's one thing conservatives are practiced at it's the art of verbal manipulation.  It's how they achieve stasis.
What is bi-partisanship, after all, but being stuck in neutral and not wanting to go forward or back?

Horn is a moron (0.00 / 0)
If Jennifer Horn really cared about personal freedom she would reject this endorsement.

You are operating under the assumption that Horn DOES policy.  It's not her thing -- besides it's easier to just say you're "anti-Washington".  Didn't you see her WMUR debate against Paul last time?  Staggeringly vapid.

There are two types of conservatives: (1) Those who truly believe that misguided right-wing philosophies will save the planet, and (2) Candidates who are too stupid to follow the logical consequences of the talking points that staff members give them to read.  Horn is the latter.

And all this time (0.00 / 0)
I had thought being a right-wing religious nut was the thing that was unnatural.  I mean, you see examples of homosexuality among animals--in nature.   I have yet to see animals deriding their fellows for their actions as some sort of affront to some sort of higher power.
