"Deliberate path of excessive spending"

by: Lucy Edwards

Sun Aug 01, 2010 at 07:44:34 AM EDT

Thought you might be interested in the announcement of candidacy for the NH House by one of our very recent inhabitants, I think he has lived in our district about a year.  Made lots of money in real estate in CA, originally from Manchester, I understand, and would like to join several other Rs in our district who ran as soon as they moved in.
For some the shock of coming from outside the state, hearing that we have "no taxes," and then getting their property tax bill is an incentive to "cut taxes."

That funny Scott Brown

by: bloomingpol

Fri Mar 26, 2010 at 14:08:02 PM EDT

That Scott Brown, that guy that NH Republicans hold up as a model for what they can do in November, remember him?  Well, he needs some campaign money, I guess, and since no one yet is running against him, he made up a challenger, who had to take an ad in the Boston Globe to try to persuade him she isn't running!

Union Leader Knowingly Lies

by: RealNRH

Tue Mar 23, 2010 at 05:06:03 AM EDT

(It never ends. - promoted by Dean Barker)

In another lovely example of the Union Leader's thorough mendacity and lack of integrity, they took it upon themselves to belatedly try to spread the much-debunked 'survey' about physicians quitting if health care reform passes.

This is referencing the wingnut-approved claim that the New England Journal of Medicine produced a survey claiming that 46% of the respondents would quit if health care passed. Unfortunately for the U-L, the NEJM has already posted a statement clarifying that no, it was not in fact a survey done by them, and even the slightest bit of effort would have uncovered this.

What's a Little Radioactive Waste Between Neighbors?

by: susanthe

Fri Feb 19, 2010 at 09:10:31 AM EST

this was published as an op-ed in today's Conway Daily Sun.

Vernon is a small town located in the very south-easternmost corner of Vermont. Vernon is just across the Connecticut River from NH, and was once part of the NH town of Hinsdale. Vernon, VT is best known for being the home of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. VT Yankee has been making news recently, because of radioactive tritium leaking from the plant. Tritium is leaking into the Connecticut River, which is a source for drinking water in the area. Five NH towns are included within the ten mile evacuation zone surrounding the plant. They are:  Chesterfield, Hinsdale, Richmond, Swanzey, and Winchester. The entire towns of Chesterfield, Hinsdale, and Winchester are within that 10 mile zone.

What Happens in Concord Doesn't Stay in Concord Any More

by: Jennifer Daler

Sat Feb 13, 2010 at 08:05:55 AM EST

When one gets past the vulgarity of Representative Nancy Eliot's (R-Merrimack) diatribe in Judiciary last week, one is left with a thought: It's good this was made public. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and it seems the need to use lies to make one's case is the infection.

As with most things, Elliot's two minutes of fame points to a larger problem with her party. They lie. They lie incessantly and about so many things. The lies are repeated and broadcast in the  traditional media without much, if any, analysis or question. Examples: "death panels", socialism=fascism, etc.

Then, of course, in Rovian form, they turn and accuse everyone else of lying. The chair of the state GOP even went so far as to use the ancient grade school taunt "Liar Liar, pants on fire"!" against President Obama.

It's not only about marriage equality, but about something as unsexy as the state budget. Remember the 17.5% increase that was repeated over and over again during the last election? It was a lie.

The House Republican Alliance, a policy group of more "conservative" reps, which Nancy Elliot co-chairs with Representatives Bill O'Brien (R-Mont Vernon) and Bob Mead (R-Mont Vernon) put out a press release with a blatant and inflammatory lie about the Democrats on the House Rules Committee.  The Nashua Telegraph called them out on it, just as they've called Elliot out on her lie about the schools. (See Dean's post below.)

Elliot also possibly counted on the fact that what she was saying would be heard only by the representatives and observers in the executive session that day. She was wrong.

The Pinnochios of the NH GOP

by: susanthe

Tue Oct 20, 2009 at 12:59:48 PM EDT

Last month, former NH GOP Chairman Wayne Semprini wrote a letter to the editor accusing Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter of being a disruptive activist at a Jeb Bradley town hall meeting he moderated. Semprini claimed that Shea-Porter and her supporters wore waffle hats, and were disruptive. Sadly for poor Wayne Semprini - the very same paper had covered the meeting in 2005, and had a picture of Carol who was lacking any form of haberdashery that day. I was there - wearing a waffle hat. So was State Rep. Susi Nord
To the best of my knowledge, Wayne Semprini has not apologized for being either A) a very forgetful individual, or B) A big honking liar.

GOP Chairman Sununu is saying some awfully weird things these days

by: Michael Marsh

Sat Jun 27, 2009 at 09:29:00 AM EDT

(If by "awfully weird" you mean "laughably untrue"... - promoted by Dean Barker)

An interview with GOP Chairman Sununu was front-page "news" in the Portsmouth Herald on Friday. It was a trip to fantasy-ville, with the ex-Governor using the word "radical" 4 times when referring to the legislature. That's right: no income tax, no sales tax, no cap gains tax, no estate tax. But they're still a bunch of radicals.

The interview was further evidence, also, that its recent purchase by Rupert Murdoch has not been a great thing  for the Herald.

Here are a few of Sununu's bigger whoppers:

The state budget passed by the Legislature this week is a deliberate step by Democrats toward a state income tax.

Why? Cuz he said so, that's why! By way of "proof" he cites one member of the House "Appropriations and Ways and Means" committee who is pro-income tax. His staff needs to tell him that the committee dropped "Appropriations" from its name many years ago.

Passage of a same-sex marriage law is a kickback to "radical left groups" from out of state that funded Democrats' campaigns in 2006 and 2008....It was quid pro quo, said the GOP chairman, that the out-of-state, agenda-laden money went to the N.H. State Democratic Committee then to local Democratic candidates with the implicit expectation that a gay-marriage bill would be passed.

Got that, legislators? Your vote was purchased wholesale by out-of-staters, and you never knew! You thought you were voting in the great tradition of personal freedom we cherish here, and to end an obvious example of discrimination. I guess the joke's on you!
